Artifacting MSI R7970 OC

I'm wondering if anyone might know what is causing this artifacting or has seen it before.
Regards

I'm not sure whats causing it but I had the same problem a few weeks ago with my Sapphire 7870. It was nowhere near as bad as the youtbue video but it was still annoying.

I would RMA it as soon as possible though.

This is more of an 'interest' post since I am RMAing the card back to OC tomorrow.

I'm wondering if anyone might know what is causing this artifacting or has seen it before.

I'd be interested to know what people think

That does look like it could be a faulty card. What drivers are you using and how are the temps? Does the problem occur while playing games or is it just limited to this benchmark?

It happens in all games. It's really bad in Sleeping Dogs and Crysis 3.

Temps in benchmark are around 60 to 70 degrees which seems normal to me and this is at stock 1010/1375 speeds.

My PC specs are:
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2 Motherboard
AMD FX8150 3.6Ghz
16GB Kingston Genesis Grey HyperX RAM
Windows 8 64bit.
850W CoolerMaster Silent Modular

I've used the beta 13.2 drivers and the official 13.1 WHQL certified drivers as well as the drivers that came on the CD. To no avail.

I noticed the the artifacts as soon as I started using the card but they were not as bad as they were now. I thought it might be a driver issue but it seems its not.

I think an RMA is definitely advisable. Make sure you show ocuk the video, though from looking at the video they will have no trouble diagnosing the issue.

Have you tried under clocking the card to see if the issue goes away?

I included it in my RMA request.

My only issue is the original boxes were discarded by my really helpful girlfriend the other day. If I pack it safely there should be no issue? I have all the cables and documents etc.

If the card is faulty that won't be an issue. I'd always advise keeping as much of the original packaging as you can though as it will always be easier to return the card in the original protective packaging. Not to mention if you ever try to sell the card you will get a bit more for it if you kept the box and it looks in good condition.

Ironically I sold my old 6970 last night in the original box. Doh!

Oh well, dead PC over the weekend then. I guess I'll have to go outside.

Thanks for your help!

Faulty core I would say.:(

If it's OcUK that's dealing with the rma, only box it all back up with the original packaging if it's under 30 days and you want a replacement/refund afaik.

They only want the card, if you send them the original packaging, it may go missing and your left with a brown box.

Pgi had that problem with his Lightning-sent it all back in original accessories and they got lost between OcUK/MSI, the card arrived back direct from MSI in a shoddy brown box that wasn't even large enough to fit the card properly(there was a bit sticking out the box iirc). :(

OcUK/MSI passed the buck with each other, but the end result ended with pgi getting the accessories sent out from MSI but no original box.

Good point Tommy.

Because im impatient I went ahead and ordered the Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X 3072MB so I can play over the weekend.

I'll sell the replacement MSI card (or I might get a refund perhaps). I lose a bit of money but oh well. I'll worry about it when then next credit card bill turns up.
