Hi,

Ok so I like the cheap price of the atom netbook running windows, which would be fit for my main purpose. VPN/RDP But not any of my other work uses.

I would like to go for an i5 tablet, but with the option of making it into a ultrabook.

If I could get an i5 tablet/maybe twisty ultrabook, I would be going for a work style replacement laptop. I will however be keeping a i7 xps 15 with me as well, just looking for a more portable option.

Finding it very hard to pick one, as most of them scream wait for the next versions they will be greatly improved in almost every respect.

Any advice?

Maybe I should refine the word 'need' but i'll come back to that.

LENOVO IdeaPad Yoga 13!

Yep your post was pretty confusing lol

Is there a particular reason you want a windows tablet? As you are going to be carrying a windows lapop anyway you may be better going for an android tablet.

Surface Pro,

HP revolve 810 http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/49235/hp-elitebook-revolve-810-tablet-laptop-pictures-and-hands-on

Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T - http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/tablet-pcs/XE700T1C-A01US

If you want a 10 hour device to compliment your exiting laptop the Lenovo Tablet 2 is awesome, 10 hours battery, 600grams, Clovertrail, Wacom digitiser, 3G etc - http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/tablet/thinkpad/thinkpad-tablet-2/

Maybe something like an i5 or i7 touch screen ultrabook?

Thanks for the replies, bit of a rushed post I know :)

I have a nexus 7, I have a sgs3 but android doesn't really cover what I'm after. Honestly I'm only really running a java interface, rdp and then web. But i'd like to do more on it.

Personally I want it to replace my laptop for most tasks, with the option of been able to take this somewhere leaving the laptop behind, or just inside the bag for when I need a ethernet port.

Really trying to avoid taking my nexus anywhere, a tablet for flights and a keyboard for work. While keeping my actual laptop in the bag, which is why I'm trying to avoid an ultrabook.

Always intended a surface pro, but really not looking the most recent pics.

-- Hurry.. erm.. well I could go buy something today, but I can also wait.

Ok for the sake of typing Just a little bit more.

I needed to attach a image to a CRM, for some reason logging in from the mobile site didn't work. The mobile app didn't have an upload option. Remote desktop to my home pc involved logging into OWA to get the file, compared to the phone or laptop which had the file ready. I wasn't at home and wasn't planning to return just yet. At a friends trying to upload this file, drove half way home for better data connection. Still failed... needed a laptop of some kind..

Went home.. upload complete in less than 2mins from entering the door. +20-30mins attempting to get it done on my phone. Laptop doesn't fit in my glovebox. = Tablet.

Take a serious look at the HP Revolve then... It's the size and weight of a tablet (almost) with a full Core i5 or 7 proc, upto 256GB SSD and 8 GB RAM. Lenovo Helix is also a contender. If you want cheaper, lighter and better battery life the Lenovo Tablet 2 is hard to beat if you can live with Clovertrail.

I guess it depends what tablets you're counting, it's about 3x the weight and size of the top tablets.

Looks nice though...

:)

True, depends if you include a keyboard or not and then add the weight of a bluetooth/usb add on keyboard to Ipad/Nexus etc. I'm guessing the OP does want a keyboard as he specifically mentioned Core i5 or better and wanting to be able to convert it into an ultrabook. In that market at the moment I prefer the Lenovo Helix or even Surface Pro as you can leave the keyboard section behind if you need to. Kinda depends what the OP wants to use it for.

For lightweight and still using Windows8 Pro I'd go with the Lenovo Tablet 2 everytime unless you really need Cor i5 + power.
