I'm shopping for a new vacuum and I saw at "Costco" they have backpack ones such as they use in hotels. I don't see why i can't buy one and use it in a residential setting, but my life partner says no way, however I don't see what the problem is? It would be great for doing the whole house really quickly, going up stairs and the like.

Your 'life' partner?

I don't see what the issue is either but may I ask what's wrong with the normal ones? And do you really want to look like a ghost buster while cleaning?

I use one every night at work. You can cover a lot of ground in a hurry. There are two downsides though. The heat on your back after an hour or so gets to be uncomfortable. Maneuvering around plants, lamps and such is a learning experience! Expect to knock over a few things learning your clearance.

One of my few happy memories of working in retail.....getting the vacuums on and playing Ghostbusters after the store closed.

No rotating brushes means it will suck, and not in a good way.
Unless you have no carpets whatsoever, in which case a Dyson will still be better.

Anyway, enough about vacuums, tell us more about this life partner.
