One of my closest friends earns about £30K a year.

He says he's gonna get a 5.2% APR loan over 4yrs, for I think about £16K for an £18K Volkswagen CC 2012 facelift model, with 20K miles on the clock.

Is this a good deal? A) for the car, and b) that sort of repayment?

He's not a massive petrolhead, but just wants a reliable car with good mpg and which looks stunning. The pics of the CC he showed me look jawdropping.

Would they drop much in value if purchased at £18k now for a 12 plate and that milage?!!

Seeing the pics, its got me interested in one!!!

Stunning car.

The loan is a good deal and whilst its not the most exciting car in the world there is nothing fundamentally wrong with a CC either. They are really nice looking cars.

My finance director at work has an '07 one - she seemed happy enough when she bought it 4 or 5 years ago.

Wouldn't be my choice if I was spending 18k, but each to their own; like Fox mentioned nothing wrong with it.

Cool story etc.

Yes, it's a good looking car for sure, but jaw dropping? No. I expect the ops head would fall off should someone show him a picture of an Aston.

Director at work swapped his b8 a4 for one of these and loves it. I like the facelift, has some nice lines and looks pretty smart compared with the usual bland vw stuff

hmm

Well that sort of loan period seems massive to me. Its going to cost him about £380 a month for four years!

I think thats huge when only on a £30k salary.

That means hes borrowing nearly HALF his salary for this car.

I looked at this the other day, and presented two options to him:-

1) Get a pre-facelift 2010 plate for about £13-14k
2) Spend the £18k and get a 2012 plate facelift with 5k on the clock ex lease from an auction.

Presented with the two options above, which is most sensible given his financial circumstances?

I earn more than £30kpa before you even take into account the Mrs salary and tbh I wouldn't dream of spending £18k on a loan for a car but different people have different priorities I guess.

I would personally go for a pre facelift petrol or a pre facelift diesel if for whatever reason diseasel is needed - with the vag warranty
