I know there are a few MX5 owners on these forums, and with the Beemer going Friday I've been offered one cheap. A 1996 UK 1.8 MX5. I've tried the usual go compare but its come back with stupid prices. Anyone managed a classic policy? If so how much you guys paying

Try Brentacre.

I was with swinton when I had mine, and was paying £540 fully comp for a 1990 1.6 eunos (import)

24,3 years no claims, no points.

Both Greenlight and Sky give discounts if you're a forum member on mx5nuts and tbh would probably be cheaper than mainstream ones anyway.

When I had my MX5, REIS (Richard Egger) were by far the cheapest for me and they offered quite a decent discount for owner's club membership.

I went with Aviva this year as they were £100+ cheaper than my renewal and all other quotes, though I didn't try any of the independant specialists/classic insurers.

1994 UK 1.8 - £237. I'm 29 with 6 years NCD.

I'm with Adrian Flux & have a Modded Classic Import :D Any other company **** itself when I used those 3 words together. :p

Greenflag are worth a try as well as they are recommend off Nutz.

Is your 5 modded at all ?
Flux specialise in Modded cars & will quote a silly price for a straight car as they aren't that interested. For a modded 5 they'll quote around 300 quid & chuck in Recovery.

Also when you say cheap How cheap ?

And Pics needed when you get it & get yourself on Nutz forum for all the info you'll ever need on a 5.

I'm with elephant 24 (23 at time of insurance) 2000 1.8 s model mx5 £322 (5 years ncb) they are also pretty good when it comes to mods.

I'm with Flux and they are the cheapest for my 1.6 Focus. Just saying.

That's good to hear. :)

I've had quotes off them in the past where the unmodded quote is more expensive than the modded quote. :p

I'm sure those mentioning Admiral/Elephant/Bell are aware, but the reason they are so good with mods is because in the event of a claim you get nothing. Their insurance and payout is based on a standard non-modified car only.

Depends on their schemes and what deals they have with certain underwriters, a couple of years ago when renewing I mentioned FFOC membership and my policy dropped by £200 and I was put on a 'hot hatch' scheme/policy despite having 99bhp :D

They offer a mods cover on their policy, but it is not a standard feature

Try The Insurance Line.

I've just got my quote back for the year and I'm giddy.

£351 for 12 months. I'm 21, with 3 years no claims, 3pts from a TS10, a fault accident in 2009, and a non fault accident in 2012. Underwritten by Aviva. £400 excess for me as I'm young, but £0 voluntary.

Called a few specialists after and they have all said I'm either taking the ****, or they have said flat out they can't get anywhere near it.

Current insurers are Elephant who quoted £641 for 10 months, so not competitive this year. However when I was 19 they were the only people who'd touch me ahha.
