Basically I want to get an SSD, only one problem, My mobo only has Sata 2 :(
As far as i'm aware I wont be able to run a SSD at its max speeds with sata 2.
Also the new Haswell chips appear to be coming out within a year so this leads me to thinking this: Do I upgrade my motherboard to one with Sata 3 or not?

Buy an SSD now anyway - yes you wont get huge transfer speeds, but it will still be a massive improvement over a hard drive as SATA2 will not limit the random access time.

Your SSD will carry across to your haswell build, a new board just for SATA3 is fairly pointless if you are planning on seeing how haswell turns out.

Just get the SSD. You'll still get blazing quick random access speeds and sequential transfers that are twice as quick as most spinny HDDs.

I'm running a crucial M4 on a SATA II motherboard and it works great. Massively faster than a mechanical drive. Buy an SSD now, you won't regret it :)
