Accepting insurance payout

It depends with me, When I had my bike accident the insurance company really looked after me, gave me good money for my wrecked bike which I bought back cheap & made good profit on, Compensated me for my leathers & helmet gloves etc & offered me a reasonable amount for my injurys. As they had been so cool I accepted the first offer they gave me.

On another occasion though the insurance company were complete ***** for no real reason either as it was black & white. I blanked there offers 3 times because I knew they were liable & pushed for every last penny.

Like everything in life I treat people like they treat me.

you will get around £1200.

no chance of much more no chance

I think id be happy with that. Well not really happy but at least its something towards a new car. Which im looking for now but having a hard time when my budget is £5000.
When i first got the Focus it was £4200 had 38k miles and was 4 years old. Trying to find something like that now seems to cost over 5 grand. Where are all the private sellers?? They are few and far between on most search sites. Im guessing most half decent cars get traded in and go to auction.

what car you looking for ?

Not fussed what make as long as its got 5 doors, as much boot space as the focus, 1.4 - 1.8, under 5 years old and under 40k miles (might go up to 50k if its less than 5 years old). Decent mpg and somewhere between 0 and 7 insurance group.
Looking at the usual suspects. Ford, vauxhall, Peugeot.
Looked at a few Vauxhall Meriva, not too keen on people carriers but really not too fussed. Last Meriva i looked at was full of mould :(

Oh and preferably not more than 40 miles from where i live.

What im liking about buying cars now is the new MOT cert. Shows up all the advisories. The amount of traders that have been hiding the MOTs under all the other paperwork is stupid.

And another thing the missis doesnt like the ass end of Astra's. Which is a pitty since there are a lot of them about.

I think im finding it stressful because ill loose the hire car just after i get the claim quote through. Not had the time pressure when buying a new car before.

Did you give them private ads or trade ones? Finding it very had to find anything on private ads for just about any car. Got a few for the Flight though so if they offer me peanuts ive at leqst got some ammo.

I bought it from a dealer so I gave them dealer ads. It was an 05 Fabia vRS with 80k and fsh. I just found the three best matches to that on Autotrader.

After they politely said no, did you politely say "ombudsman"?

;)

They would not budge from the 1st offer on my car (old 03 Polo). I politely said ombudsman and they said go ahead we'll send you a leaflet.

It can take up to a year for the ombudsman to make a decision so be prepared play the long game if you go down that route.

Well yes that's true - the Sierra sat on the drive for two months whilst I fought the insurance company.

My Car got wrote off in Jan. They offered me just over £6k(after talking to the GAP) I bit his hand off. Autotrader has them being sold for £4500. Just waiting for my back to Invoice gap payout now

Just got the phone call and like above i bit her hand off. More than i thought, even when they took my excess off and they pay off the rest of my insurance policy which comes out of the figure. I should get the excess back from the guy who hit me. So im happy, might be able to push my budget for a new car up now.
I could have tried to get more but i think that would have only got me stress. They had checked out auto trader and come up with some sellers much higher than i did!

Really got to find something new now. Just looked at a VAUXHALL MERIVA 1.6 LIFE.

Glsd its worked out with a bit of haggling....!

I thought I was going to have to go through all this hassle over the s2000 when I crashed it, but the first offer they came back with was more than I had paid for the vehicle, so I accepted immediately. I think it was an oversight from the assessor - he asked where I had bought it, and when, then made an offer once he realised I'd had it for just a week, but never actually asked how much I had paid for it!
