Best phone audio for use with headphones and amazing camera?

Nokia N8 (completely serious).

It offers USB digital out, which you can buy a portable fiio DAC and AMP in order to connect your headphones.

It also has a 12 megapixel camera, not as good as the pureview but probably still in the top 5 camera phones out there.

Nothing will beat USB digital out into a DAC in terms of audio quality on a phone.

This will probably come down to preference of the sound.

Wolfson DACs are a well liked - these are found in S3's currently. These can be tweaked which gives rise to quite a bit of their popularity.
If you prefer bass heavy consider Beats tuned phones, HTC sell these.
N8s as previously mentioned, do USB out trickery.

I'm no audiophile but I can tell the difference between my SGS2 (some cheapy yamaha iirc)/S3 fairly easily. If you go android pick up poweramp, it's worth the few quid.

No smartphone has a good camera. All the high end phones currently have fairly OK cameras, any you pick would be more than fine but still worse than anything canon or nikon make.

Any high end smartphone will do I suspect as camera and sound quality can be subjective to a point. I thought my sgs3 was good but my new Xperia Z is better again. If you're using some crappy headphones then it won't matter..

I'd steer clear of the S3 as it's awfully quiet on all but the easiest to drive headphones so you'd need to amp it anyway which then defeats the point.

I think the best option purely for audio is phones which support USB digital or hdmi out which can then be plugged into a DAC.

The best all in one option would be any top of the range smartphone combined with a decent player like Neutron MP on android or Equ on iPhone.

Of the two above options in terms of pure audio quality the separate DAC option is better. Then using a separate device such as a Cowon would be the next best option in terms of pure audio quality. Then it would be the top of the range smartphone such as SGS3 or iPhone 5 or whatever HTC's new one is (they seem to release one every 3 months).
