Does car-worry stop you buying/leasing a certain car?

Hey folks,

I am looking to possibly get a company car shortly, however, whilst I have always wanted an Audi, I now will not get one due to the fact all I ever hear about is them getting stolen, so if I get an S Line A3 (the new ones just out) I can imagine that being top of the pile of scumbag thieves.

Oddly, i'd feel safer driving a BMW 320, even a brand new model, as I just think they do not seem to be targets in comparison to Audi, who knows why...

I know that is quite a sweeping statement, but you know what I mean, regarding not being able to park up in a multi story car park to go shopping, out for dinner etc
Even if you live in a nice area, it does not necessarily mean it is safe, plus it's not just gonna stay on the drive unused etc.

So, how many of you have felt similar, and not chosen certain cars because of the worry-factor of them being stolen/vandalised?

Yes, a business lease car is not really 'my car' but even so, I wouldn't want the hassle or worry of it being stolen.
 
I worry more about whether or not a certain car is more likely to attract attention from the fuzz.

Or that green cars tend to be in accidents more than any other colour (apparently?).
 
Which engine A3? A dagdag wont be high on a car thief's list, an S3 will be.

If you're so worried get a new car with a fancy pants tracker/immobiliser combo.
 
Worst "im getting an audi" thread ever.

Most people would be over the moon to come back and find their dagdagdag missing
 
No way is this a bragging thread! Anyone who is working for a company that offers a car can pretty much get a Diesel A3! It's in the standard entry bracket car for most jobs! Even estate agents are driving BMW 1 series / A3's, so this is not a brag! If it was a BMW M3 then maybe!

I added to this statistic when I wiped out a Corsa in my green MG ZS, then gave a green Ka some roundabout lane discipline in my green Rover 75.

I won both times, neither my fault. :cool:
 
Then don't worry about the car. Get one, defensively park within reason (don't be the dick that straddles 2 spaces) and enjoy it as much as a diesel A3 can be enjoyed. It will get stone chips, you may have a minor prang, heck you might even kerb an alloy - but it doesn't matter, it's a metal box on wheels!

Alternatively don't buy a nice car out of paranoia and never leave the house.

I would not worry about a car getting stolen to the point it would put me off buying it, case in point, I had a Series 1 Escort RS Turbo, loved it, it was stolen & not recovered :( so I replaced it with an S2 RS Turbo - with better security - it got nicked too :/

Imo, it's a sad state of affairs when the question of crime stops me from buying any given product, vehicle or not.
 
If it was actually my car and I'd spent a lot of money on it and I knew I would be leaving it in dodgy places then I'd worry about it being keyed/damaged/broken into but not necessarily stolen.
 
Absolutely, I have a whole bunch of prejudices, eg.
- An Italian car will break down with electrical faults
- French cars are all made of papermache
- Audi's are all drive by c0cks
- Vauxhalls are all just rubbish
- Porsches will bend my credit card over for a good rodgering on a regular basis
- Green cars are just unlucky (links nicely to the above post about the being involved in more accidents)

The green car thing may just be superstition and it seems to be a widely held one. Studies on it vary with some saying it is a more 'crashy' colour, others not.

I was told it was because it was less immediately visible, which makes sense as white, red or yellow are a bit more garish whilst certain shades of green are a bit more subtle. Could all be hokum though! :)
 
I was worried sick about my ST when I first got it due to the hundreds of stories of bumpers /centre caps getting pinched, eventually though I decided life's just too short to worry about your car every minute of the day so bought one anyway, thankfully in 12 months of owning it, all I've had is someone spit on it in a car park and someone try breaking into the house for the keys (This is only assumed to be for my car). Just get whatever car you want, it's why you have insurance.
 
As said a TDI Audi is hardly going to be at the top of the criminal shopping list. Even then, it's a company lease car insured by your company. I'd hate to think of what else you lose sleep over if this worries you!
 
I doubt a silver MG-TF would have been more lucky than my green one in the reliability stakes!

I try not to worry about s car's desirability to thieves when buying. I would probably rethink the area that I lived in or insist on off road parking. I'm a little bit precious about where I leave the car, but I will try to use public transport rather than drive. Drinking a beer on the train > being stuck on the M25.
