I have never really understood this. Is it just with hardware or everything OcUK sells?

e.g. I wrote in a post last week I bought a second hand graphics card (that was also sold on OcUK) for £230. The post was deleted and I got a warning.

However - PC games are sold at OcUK and everyone has been writing about where they can get it the cheapest (or cheapest CD Key to activate the game) - no posts deleted and I doubt no warnings etc.

Could I have some clarification as it seems a bit random at the moment

OCUK are a business and they are the leading on line retailer in Europe they rightly do not want customers going to competitors after seeing something posted on their own forums simples.

purely from a business point of view
i wouldnt want to operate a forum, and for it to be used as a communcations hub for people (who probably by defintion spend large amounts on components) to find a cheaper price which may or may not be elsewhere
also forum members get the benefit of free shipping

I 100% agree.

In fly people missing the point while of course not missing the opportunity to explain something the OP already knows. Look at them go!

He doesn't need a lecture on why competitor rules exist on this forum, he gets it. He just wants to understand why he is perceiving an inconsistency in the rules so he knows where he stands.

Well surely that then would lead the op to think, oh I will drop a mod or an ocuk member of staff a quick email. :)

What about pricing? (if you do not talk about any competitor)

e.g. I paid £150 for x type of CPU second hand - When it may be sold new on OcUK for £200

It pretty obvious you shouldnt say - "look on xyz retailer, they have memory for half the price of OcUK at the moment" as, like you say, its their main business. Other things are a bit unclear

*noted from the rules that software can now be discussed* - im sure it didnt in the past

Just stay away from anything that could be considered a 'core sector' of ocuk and you should be fine.

T shirts, fine, computer cases, not ok.

I tend to see 'core business' as pc hardware by the way.
