Hey guys.

Ive had a slow puncture for a while in one of my tyres, I top it up every week or two and its been okay.

However this morning I got to the car, drove off and realised it was completely flat. I popped into garage less than half a mile away and filled it back up with air.

In the last 4 hours or so I can see its going down again quite steadily.

Its a pretty new tyre with lots of thread. Its an eagle f1. Ideally Id like to see if it can be repaired. Its a noob question but where should I take it over the weekend? If I can avoid buying a new tyre that would be good.

Whats best plan of action now to avoid fitting my spacesaver.

Any reply appreciated.

Thanks

Really depends on where the puncture is. It can only be repaired if it is in the centre part of the tyre, not within a certain distance of the side wall.

I take it if it can't be repaired you will want another F1 on it. I would take it to a specialist that:

A: Has one in stock and doesn't try and talk you into something else.
B: Sells them at a price you are happy with.

Once the tyre is off they are not going to be easy to persuade to put it back on if it cannot be repaired.

Can you hear it hissing out?

Sometimes it can just be a poor seal on the wheel rim. Take it to a tyre shop, they'll tell you if it's terminal or not.

If the hole is in the middle of the tread, they'll just plug it. I don't know what price to expect, around here it's £5-20

If you have driven any distance on it completely or nearly totally flat it would probably safer to replace it. You could have caused damage to it which is not visible and could cause a blow out later on.

If you have driven it half a mile flat then it's probably ****ed.

Either way you need to drive it to a place that at least sells tyres rather than just somewhere that repairs them.
That way if it is cattle trucked (you can tell when you dismount it from the rim when you have it removed for repair) you are in position to have a new one fitted there and then.

Had a similar problem with mine, sometimes it would last days even weeks without going down and others it would be flat over night, turned out it was corrosion on the inside of the wheel, once that was sanded back it was fine

Ok thanks guys. I was busy this afternoon so I'm gonna have to fit the space saver then go get a new tyre tomorrow. I'm near Cannock right now if anyone knows anywhere good local to me.

I'll have a Google of a place Tonight.

Bit gutted ill have to buy new as the tyre has a massive tread depth. serves me right for not ddealing with it when it was just slow. Not sure why it's suddenly went into a fast leak though.

Not sure why it's suddenly went into a fast leak though.

Most slow leaks are as a result of running over a free impaling object like a nail.

(Running over a fixed impaling object like a stinger or by going the wrong way over one of those one way booby traps at the exits of car parks typically results in instant deflation as does running over something that "Cuts" rather than "Punctures" the tyre such as Glass)

To begin with, the embedded object does a pretty good job of plugging the hole. After a while though it starts to work loose and the rate of air leakage increases until such a point is reached that you get ****ed off with it and do something about it! :D

I had a similiar thing happen to me, although I managed to make it last 8 months with a mega slow puncture, so much so that I had all but used the tyre :p

You didn't answer the question - did you drive it totally flat?

That question is answered in my op, I drove about half a mile. I was heading to the garage to buy some snacks and half way there realised I could hear the flat, so I continued to garage and inflated it.

I'm not liking idea of spendin 100 quid but as you all reckon it will have bust the tyre then its gotta be done :'(

Take it to a back street tyre place, get them take the tyre off check it and repair the puncher.

The tyre fella said I hadnt done any damage to the tyre, he said the sidewall didnt show signs of harm and that inside there was no runflat dust.

He showed me a hole in the tyre between the tread which seemed to be the culprit. He drilled it out and plugged it. Seems fine now .

I was busy yesterday so I used a mobile place. Cost 25 quid but the service was spot on. Came to my door on time this morning and took about 15 mins in all.
