Hi guys another pc build for you. ;)

This is a rough idea for a rig that I will be build sometime this year so if there's a new processor or a motherboard revamp I'm happy to wait until there releases. Also it's more for general use so ultra high settings on games isn't too important.

Asus Maximums Formula V
I5 3570k or I7 3770k not a great difference between given the price and I will overclock somewhat
2 x 8gb ram
Graphics card - I'm open to suggestions doesn't need to be great 1-2gb would be fine, what's anybodies views on sli at the start of a rigs life asa pose to upgrading later? I've already got a 22in 1,680x1,050 display but I will probably add at least one more.
2 1tb WD red drives raid 1 - I ideally wanted something equivalent to WD black but they don't support raid ie 7200rpm 64mb cache
64 or 128 gb Crucial M4 - open to suggestions on make and model
Optical drive - Generic drive possibly blu ray
Case - is it possible to get a water cooled case with psu included? Ideally some form of red accents or lights if not I'll need those a separates.

As probably already clear I'm open to suggestions or nudges in a different directions, if I have made any cardinal sins please don't hesitate to shout. I'm hoping to keep the price around £1000 but a little more to futureproof is fine.

Thanks

still no video in any as budget won't allow, unless very low end, gone for a larger psu as you talk about sli, so spec'ed bigger to start off with

also yes there is a newer socket and cpu out in July, so if in no hurry i'd wait

Welcome,

I have spend the last 10 minutes sspeccing a great gaming rig up for around £1000 then only to read "It's more for general use".. Can you clarify that a bit more?

You can buy a PC that will cope with general browsing and video playback for £400 easy, so why spend nearer a Grand?

The rig i've specced below is an all out gaming rig and will play all modern games on Ultra (maybe beside crysis 3)..

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £239.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £187.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £129.98
1 x XFX Pro Series 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £84.98
1 x Plextor M5S 128GB Solid State Drive - (PX-128M5S) £82.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX16GX3M2A1600C11) £79.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Windowed Case - Black £69.98
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £59.99 (£119.98)
1 x Cooler Master Hyper 612S CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £32.99
1 x LG GH24NS95 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £18.98
Total : £1,064.36 (includes shipping : £13.75).

You can get pre-watercooled cases but not with PSU's..

Let me talk you through my spec:

While the Maximums is a great board it's wildly overpriced for your uses, the UD3 has great overclocking abilities.

The 3570k is spot on for gaming..

7950 will play near enough everything on ultra, no sweat.

These Seagate drives will do well in RIAD0 too..

PLextor are intel's SSD OEM, so very reliable and with a firmware update will be a bit faster. :)

If you dont NEED a Blu-Ray don't get one, they are expensive.

Gone for more of a blue theme. :)

Like i say, if you'd only be gaming occasionly i suggest lowering your budget and looking at trinity. Unless you are doing lots of video editing and photo editing.. Are you?

Don't forget to factor in an OS.
I'd imagine the WD Reds to be better suited for RAID being thats what they've been designed for.

Thanks for the welcome, I did think it was difficult but what would life be without challenges :)

Thanks for your help so far guys , I'm sorry for be being vague I'll try and explain. The new XBOX is due to release in November, with more information due ~40 days, depending on spec and price I may game 100% on PC rather than a bit of both as I do already. I'm a "geek" so to speak and enjoy tinkering and getting the most out of technology I own, so the reason for the Maximus is the tweaking potential and hopefully not going to be outdated in say ~3 years.

I think I can make use of a previous disk drive and the OS isn't a problem as such as I'm subscribed to Microsoft Technet because of work etc.

also yes there is a newer socket and cpu out in July, so if in no hurry i'd wait

Where can I find information on the newer socket and CPU out in July please?

And finally is it worth buying a £100 graphics to be probably disappointed or break the bank for a £300 card?
