Upgrade Advice from Asus GTX 680 2GB TOP - Titan or 690?

But that boosted edition card could be bought for £340 around a month or 6 weeks ago. Something up with a £130 price hike.

Yeah, the recent changes have made me wish I bought 7970 Lightnings @ £359.99. That bloody Never Settle driver threw a spanner in my works!!! :D.

Crysis 3 max settings @ 5760 won't be playable on a 690 or single Titan?

I'm gutted if that's true :-/ I can't buy 2 Titans for a while. I may just scrap 5760 and stick to my single XL2420T and 1080p 120hz gaming :(

Crysis 3 at 5760 isn't playable with max settings and SLI Titans.

Is that's my best option then? I haven't used 3D for games so I guess I wouldn't miss it.

Quite annoyed I got my plans wrong :P I sold my 680 as I was set on a surround setup but 120hz seems wasted unless I buy 3/4 Titans :-/

Feel like I should have just kept my 680 and 1080p 120hz gaming would have been fine for most games.

If I get the titan or 690 and use it on my 1 1080p monitor I know it will be more than enough gpu power for max settings but if up the resolution to 5760*1080 will it have to be really low settings or will I get away with med/high?

I was even contemplating getting a 660ti or 5xx card just to see me thorough a few months @1080p see what happens with prices and 7xx cards.

Options I see are sell monitor+3D and get a high res monitor with 680sli/690 or a titan and it will run well.

Just bite the bullet get a titan run that @1080p and get my monitors for surround and just sacrifice some eye candy

Of finally wait it out and get a cheap card to see me through until things become clearer with next gen cards, current gen pricing and even drivers/patches for titan and crysis 3.

I must add tho crysis 3 isn't my main game so if everything else works well and I only have to sacrifice settings on crysis then I think I can live with that.

I'm just glad I have components going through an RMA at the moment I would have just rushed the decision by now

If I was in your shoes, I would keep the monitors and get one Titan for now. These clock up to almost a 690. In a few months time, these may have dropped in price or you can justify adding another but whatever way, you can play most games maxed out with 1 Titan.

Not a bad shout at all. If you are not using 3D and would prefer more pixels on a single screen, a 690 will do the job.

Seems your best person to get advice from as you went to 3D surround using 680s and now upgraded to SLI titans.

How well does it perform and is it definitely a requirement for titans and avoid 690 (similar to your 680 SLI)

I don't suppose you could give me some figures with a couple games like BF3 and Crysis 3 on a single Titan?

I have a similar build to you (3930K/R4E) but don't have the funds for 2 titans and 2 monitors :(

If your board has the disable pic-e lane switches would you mind seeing how it copes with a single card I would really appreciate it :)

I wanted surround gaming so I'm not going to compromise for a high res monitor if I don't have to

Thanks

You have already replied before I finished my direct question to you.

I am going to go for 1 titan then I think and just get by and stick a 2nd in there when the next cards launch and some rich enthusiast wants to sell his Titans

Don't need to run the single titan test if you already know it can run most games. Crysis 3 @5760 I will just turn the settings down.

My game of choice when it's all running is Zero hour anyway and I'm sure I can max that :P it's just in preparation for Generals 2

I would love to do some 5760*1080 gaming on a single Titan but I don't have a active display thingy, so have to use two Titans for this reason.

If someone wanted to send me one of those active display lead thingys, I would do single Titan on 5760*1080 gaming b ut I am not paying for one :p.

Active display to DVi?

I was referring to the switches on the motherboard. You can turn on/off pci-e cards without removing them. (Useful for diagnosis) especially with water cooling.

I thought you was already gaming @5760*1080 with ur Titans.

Yep, Active disply to DVI :)

I am gaming at 5760*1080 but I am connected with 3 D-DVI leads (two in one Titan and 1 in the other) and to be able to swich to one and still game at that res, I would need an active display to DVI.

Shows what I know :P forgot the titan had hdmi port instead of the extra DVDI.

I am settled on a titan now :) if I can find 1 before next Thursday that is.

Single Titan and will get 1 of the adapters to connect 3 monitors and use the hdmi for my Samsung 3D tv.

I am sure I will be happy. Hate to add up what I will have spent on my PC after this upgrade :P

Actually my monitor has a display port connection, I don't need the adaptor then do I ? So soon as I get my new GPU it will support 3 monitors on its own using 2 DVI and 1 display port I think

It will but it needs to be an active display port. I am sure someone else can confim this, as I am not 100% on that.

if you really want to test your Titan(s) i would suggest installing Skyrim with the S.T.E.P mod as it consists of lots of HD mods.

Takes a while to download and install.
Combined these mods with 8xMSAA+SGSSAA through nvidia inspector and it will max your cards more than metro2033 or even crysis 3.

I play STEP mod on my 690 and without any MSAA+SGSSAA whatsoever it maxxes out my vram in parts going up to 2040mb!

It would be interesting to see if Titan could maintain a constant 60fps while maxxing out MSAA+SGSSAA.

Its the ULTIMATE test.
Here is STEP mod.
