I have a budget of around £600. Does a laptop with the following specifications exist for such a price?

- Core i7 processor
- 15" or bigger
- 6GB+ RAM (preferably 8GB)
- Dedicated graphics

The closest one I have found is this.

The only exception to my list is the graphics card which is Intel HD Graphics 4000.

I intend to use the laptop as a desktop replacement, watching HD films as well as video editing and designing visual effects.

I suppose a side question would be "Is the graphics card that important to the above uses?"

First off dude don't post from other retailers.

Look at dell outlet store for a good deal.

XPS 15-L521x

i7 3612QM
GT 640M

Sorry, I was unaware of the rules.

Including VAT the XPS 15-L521x goes over my budget. However I saw the Inspiron 15R - 7520 with some pretty decent specs:

i7-3632QM
AMD Radeon HD 7730M

Is there a big difference between the two? There's about £100 difference in price, not entirely sure why.

the inspiron is a cheaper model, main difference will be in the build quality. Inspiron is made of cheap plastics, the xps is metal etc.

Look at the Asus N55SL has an i7, GT635M and bluray for £600. Or if you dont want a 1080p screen you can get the lenovo idepad y570 for £500 which has an i7 and GT555M. Or if you can spend a bit more the Asus N56 looks nice for £700.

Graphics card could be important for visual effects, what software do you use?

Is the build quality really that important?

Adobe After Effects usually, there may also be some occasional 3D modelling with Maya or 3D Studio Max.
