Hi there I am thinking of buying a new mega build specs as follows:

I7 3930k overclocked @4.6g
Asus P9 X79 LE mobo
16g hyperbeast ram @2400mhz
4g GTX 680 (with a view to run another 4g GTX680 in sli at a later date)
90g kingston hyper x ssd (for windows 7 64bit)
240g kingston hyper x ssd (for games)
2T western digital 6gps (for movies and general mass storage)
corsair 850w enthusiast psu (to support additional graphics card later)
corsair H100 water cooler (for overclock)
Zalman Z11 plus case

basically my main questions are is it woth spending the extra money on the 3930k as a pose to the 3820 processor as this is a huge price increase? Also have I overlooked any possible bottlenecks or would anybody else do anything different for that sort of cash? (£2100 approx)

Thaks for the replys guys, this will pretty much be a pure gaming rig. I just hope the 850w supply will comfortably run 2 x GTX 680's when I finally fit both of them!

It will run a pair of those cards.

Crysis3 for example looks like it loves multi core CPU's, so give it the best you can afford.

monster build and spec, just for show tbh

1 x Samsung 500GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD500BW) £274.99
1 x Samsung 256GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD256BW) £209.99
1 x Plextor M5 Pro 256GB Extreme Series Solid State Drive - (PX-256M5P) £185.99

• Capacity: 500GB Samsung
• Sequential Read: 540MB/s
• Sequential Write: 330MB/s

- Capacity: 256GB Plextor
- Controller: Dual Core Marvel 88SS9187
- Maximum Read: 540MB/sec
- Maximum Write: 460MB/sec

• Capacity: 256GB Samsung
• Sequential Read: 540MB/s
• Sequential Write: 520MB/s

so speed v size etc, you don't pay a lot more for a 500gb, but is it worth the extra? and is it really needed?

Hard Disk Drives,

1 x Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 4TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM - Retail (0S03356) HDD £199.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST3000DM001) HDD £104.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £79.99

just to show the difference in size v price again, is it better to spend a bit more now for more space? but how much more? 3tb isn't much, 4tb is, but you can never have enough tbh

nice to see another i7 gaming rig built, enjoy

Another think niggling me is whether it's worth upgrading to aftermarket fans as I do like to run a nice chilly box but am not a fan of noise, I have heard the corsair fans are good for cooling but sound like an areoplane is landing in your box, bset aftermarket fans forr cooling/noise reduction?

Iv'e been looking around and aparently the h100 won't fit in the zalman z11 (damn shame good case for the money) any thoughts on another case? really appreciate the help by the way!

just copied from above and added some different parts, cost is higher yes, but is it worth the extra? that's for you to decide, same as spending this amount, is it worth waiting for the newer boards and cpu's to come out in July?

1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 680 EX OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with a free copy of 3DMark advanced edition £499.99
1 x Intel Core i7-3930K 3.20GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail £469.99

1 x Silverstone Strider Plus 1000W Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply (SST-ST1000-P) £136.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST3000DM001) HDD £104.99

1 x Antec P280 Super Midi Tower Case - Gun Metal Black £99.98
Total : £2,013.90 (includes shipping : £12.50).

still in budget, swapped dual channel to quad (not sure why stulid picks dual and doubles it rather than picking quad when cheaper either) must be a reason but i can't think of it, i'm sure he will say as he likes to lol at me, but saved a few quid there, added a 500gb sdd, bit slower, but not by miles, but you won't notice it tbh unless bench marking against the other one picked, and also picked a 3tb hdd, so also a bit more space and stayed with other bits and case etc

not spending just for the sake of it either, just another option, a choice, a different train of thought maybe, as i like and need more space while i'm gaming :) enjoy what ever you pick

after seeing Hono's 3820 build, thought i'd edit and change mine as well, for a option to look at,

1 x Antec P280 Super Midi Tower Case - Gun Metal Black £99.98
Total : £1,793.86 (includes shipping : £12.50).

went retail on the cpu just for longer warranty 3 years instead of 1 on oem etc. kept other parts same as above

now just playing with budget and adding a sli now option, just for interest and options

You are right it doesn't, it's a great budget case (as is the Z9) but they are limited to 290mm GPUs too.

YOUR BASKET
2 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £239.99 (£479.98)

Total : £1,693.37 (includes shipping : £13.75).

Used the 3820, remember that ivybridge-E is still to be released for this socket yet. Even if you want the hexcore CPU this lot comes in under £2K. 32GB of RAM (half the max allowed by the mobo), these kits overclock past 2000mhz. 7950 in Xfire, look into the massive games bundle you should get for adopting Xfire from the get go.

Look forward to seeing what you settle on :)

It's a difficult one the antec 280 is the size of a small moon (an oblong moon that is) and it looks like the wrong end of a dog, I'm not that fussed on looks but the CM Storm Stryker Full Tower Gaming Case looks like an angry stealth fighter on steriods, I could go for the zalman Z 11 if I opted for the corsair H80i any thoughts or is that a really dumb idea?

You really do want a big radiator, I have done a Kuhler920 on a 3930K and overclocked it struggled unless the two fans were on the maximum speed which thus sounds like a hurricane.

How about a Corsair 500R? a 240mm rad slots nicely in the roof space.
