Past few months I've used a cheap Wifi adapter to connect with my gaming PC. Used to use Ethernet but the cable was unsightly going all the way around the room. Since using the wifi adapter I've noticed my internet not be as fast as it was on ethernet.

Is their really a difference between ethernet and wifi?

Cheers

You've answered your own question really.

Perhaps it's the fact that its a cheap wireless module, but wireless is never going to beat wired for throughput. Have you considered the powerline adapters?

A massive difference, especially compared with Gigabit.

Even 100 Mbit Ethernet will usually be faster than a wireless connection. It'll certainly give lower and more consistent Pings.

Simple - he says his internet is slower than it used to be. Most internet connections are "up to 8mbps" - most wifi connections are 54mbps or better so there's plenty of capacity there.

That surely can't be real world.

I'm on 100mb virgin
Wifi is see 24-25mb
wired 105mb

New Netgear 2.4/5ghz router

I see around 70mbps with Wifi and the full 104 ish wired. I only get that 70 if i test right beside the hub and even 3 or 4 meters drops me to 50.

If you're on a FTTx connection then bog standard wireless defintiely won't be up to it, Wireless N or better would be needed (is there much in the way of ac adapters yet?)

I do also agree with the others by the way - wired beats wireless hands down.
