Best for 2560x1440p

Just put my 7970 in and nothing fans and lights on but no drive noise and blank screen. Tried the onboard GPU and still nothing.

Given up for now but looking like it might be an interesting RMA.

:( I'm gutted for you. I know this might be a stupid question but have you reset the CMOS?.

I'm sorry this has happened and can only hope that you'll be looked after. If you've got a lot of evidence of the system working with the 7970 via benchmark screenshots and through forum posts, should help with your conversation with the staff.

Is it OCUK?.

Shorted the card Moog? Did you use three bits of insulation tape to cover all the areas? What about the left vrm? Did any heat sinks touch the base or fins?

The 7970 works fine tested it in another system. Not sure about board everything was fine since I installed the card. All the driver re-sets and crashes before it died lead me to something with the card. Will work it out tonight and see what has died.

Mr Castiel you are correct it does seem the mobo is at fault as well as the 680. The pop and smoke was a cap going on the motherboard and the GPU sucked up the smoke and blew it out the back.

I have replaced the blown cap on the board and it is working again now and has been running prime for 2 hours on the onboard gpu without any problems.

Plugging back in the 680 I have exactly the same issue as before with the drivers crashing and then the blank screen.

I'm now going to go with my original plan and start from a fresh install of windows and work from there but at least my board and CPU are operating ok now.

All good fun.

You might want to try a different pci-e slot first, have you tried the 680 in another system if you have one available?

I have tried the 7970 in this system and it runs perfect. I'm trying to avoid using the other pc as it is being collected tomorrow and is all set to go and using AMD cards.

I'm currently using just the standard Windows 8 drivers for the 680 and it seems to be working ok at the moment. I have done 3 runs of heaven and it boosts up to 1280 without an issue. I'm pretty sure this is a software issue and a fresh start is best.

Will work it out tonight.

Had a good play now and it is seeming like the card is either faulty or just unable to run. It's really weird as it ran fine for 2 days with no problems.

I get either the driver re-set message or a blank screen with the display turning off with any combination of drivers on both fresh installs of Win 7&8. Moving slots makes no difference. If I use my 7970 it runs perfect so it must be something with the 680.

But weirdly I have managed to run Heaven for over an hour without issue at one point and had Borderlands 2 running as well.

I'm out of ideas tbh. There is a lot of talk of driver issues on the net with lots of people with similar problems so it could just be a driver issue but not being able to do much without a crash is annoying.

I think I will just DSR this card and try a different one and see where it leads me.

Just tried the card in another machine and it works perfect. Just tried another 680 in mine that works fine and same problem.

It must be something with my pc, but no idea. I think I will strip to basics and start afresh. Seems weird the AMD card works perfect.

I will not give up....:)

what MB is it?

BTW - for those in this thread that, like me, bought EVGA cards last week, don't forget that you can also get a primal carnage steam code from EVGA as well as your assassin's creed at free2play money :-)

Must be those terrible AMD drivers we keep hearing about. ;)
