Hello

i have got a Pioneer VSX-918V amp

the center speaker keeps cutting out or its very faint

i have replaced the cable, made no difference

i have plugged one of my floor standers into the center speaker port and it works fine

i have plugged my center speaker into one of the floor standing ports and it works fine

plug the center speaker back into the center port and it does not work !!:confused::confused:

OP

Plug it into a known working socket and bang the speaker. Poss voice coil is intermittent short/oc

The output on the center may not be as powerful as mainset. so the amp will push power on a good speaker to the centre and may also clear fault on the center speaker in the mainset position. However may not have enough clout to push the centre speaker in the centre output.

Clear as mud

If the centre speaker is perfectly fine when connected to another channel, then surely the speaker cannot be faulty. One would assume the centre channel is to blame; except that when another speaker is connected to the centre channel, that works fine.

Is the problem with centre speaker intermittent, or is it constantly faint? If it's intermittent, then maybe you haven't swapped the speakers around for long enough for the fault to reveal itself.
