I have complete and total respect for that. Far too many people, IMHO, use 'charity' to get themselves a free holiday and do the trip of a lifetime gratis. For you to fully self fund it, meaning any donations you receive are going to charity not to cover your costs, is what this sort of thing should be about.

An example to many. Good luck.

Not sure if that was a dig at me or not but I certainly don't feel guilty about not totally self funding my trip. For the approximately one thousand pounds of fundraising that will go towards covering part of my trip its currently looking like near enough seventeen thousand will end up in the charity coffers. I consider that a fair return, yes in a perfect world it would 100% go to the charity, however its not a perfect world and its better than the charity receiving nothing.

Another big poster...

It's not a dig at you. I've no idea who you are, where you are going or even that you were going anywhere. I popped in as I infrequently do, saw Glacus's post and replied to it.

I just find it a bit of a shame that people use charity in order to fund trips like this. They think that as long as the charity benefits its ok for people who think they are giving money to charity to instead be paying for somebodies adventure holiday. If you fall into that description, well my post wasn't personally aimed at you as like I said I've not read the whole thread, was just skim-reading and picked his out as he's a poster I often read posts by.
