Electricity - Yearly Spend?

We have 4 storage heaters.
1 downstairs, and 3 upstairs.

Meter reading this morning When I left at about 8:10am
Low - 88939
Normal - 89245

The property is a 16th century converted barn with very high ceilings. The downstairs is stone floored. Its quite a unique place. Really enjoyed living here, but it is a nightmare to heat! We simply got used to putting on jumpers, but with a baby in the house now, we have to move on :)

I moved suppliers recently, and now have the monthly payment down to £134.50 a month.

OMG at the prices being paid. I have a 4 bed detached which is about 2500 square foot. 4 of us live here and me and the misses work from home so its used more than most people. 1st Jan - 31st Dec last year we paid a combined £1823.74 for electric and gas. We have a gas hob as well that is used just about everyday.

You got the figures to back this up? Export to supply is around 3-4 p per kwh.

You got the whole street covered in them?

Same as Castiel, I get 48.6p for every KwH produced whether it is used or not on the 2 properties we have solar on.

Last year over the 2 properties I got paid £3334.20.

One generated 3445KwH and the other 3765KwH.

The payment increases with the RPI each year on 1st April so we should be getting 50p+ as of next month.

Uh what? Please explain bc unless by 3 bedroom house you mean mudhut this is pretty hard to comprehend. This sounds more like a quartly price to me.

our gas and electric is 55 quid a month, thats what is coming out of the bank every month.. it could be that slightly more is gas but i just halved it.

27.50 x 12 = 330

we use the laptop a lot for internet or phones, they use very little electric, energy efficient bulbs in every room, LED tv, the tv set for lower electrical use,set on lower contrast or something.. fridge is pretty new, something like 180W when on, obviously it turns off once cool enough.. dish washer is new and efficient and washing machine and other stuff isnt on everyday.. we average about 7kw everyday

i want it lower than 7kw a day too.. their is something like 2kw used everyday just from things being on standby, but its just too awkward to turn everything off everynight..

Ours is £57 per quarter for electric for 3 people in a 3 bed house. But we use a mixture of gas an electirc. Our gas bill was £80 odd per quarter a while ago as they underestimated our gas usage but now its gone back to around £50 odd. So about £480 for both per year... That seems too cheap .

We have had digital meters fitted that don't need to be read, so must be right. We got them fitted as we complained about them underestimating our usage then hitting us with a larger bill out of the blue.

I generally spend about £50-60 a month on electricity, so £6-700 a year. Thats for me living alone in a three bedroom semi with gas central heating, electric oven and shower. I could probably cut that down a fair bit if I wanted to.

3 year old 1-bed ground floor flat, all electric.

Averaging £71 a month over the whole year.

42" plasma on 5 hours a day.
My sig pc on 5 hours a day.
Gf's laptop.
Cat water fountain on 24/7.
Usual oven. washing machine, fridge, phone charger, etc usage.
3 electric wall heater.
A desiccant dehumidifier.
3kw boiler on for 4 hours over the day.

I just worked out my yearly spend for last year on Electricity.
I was (according to my bank statements) £2341.
Small 1 bedroom barn conversion on economy 7 with storage heaters.
All Electric, no gas heating, or gas supply.

Am I alone in thinking this is a tad too high?

Just got my bill in the other day for 3 months was £594.60:eek::eek:

Same as me i have storage heaters, one bedroom apartment, no gas.:(:(

With Storage heaters you really ought to consider going onto an Economy 10 meter.

I live alone and have a 2 bed flat and my electric is £40 PCM. To put it another way, my Mon-Fri daily usage is about 5 Kw's a day, I only use the storage heaters at weekends when I'm the flat more often and I try and use things like the washing machine and dishwasher at night only.

All electric here and it's about £1100 a year. But that did include having very drafty windows, which have been replaced now.

Storage heaters SUCK.

2 bed flat, converted cheaply many years ago from an old tax office, so built cheaply in the first place.

In a reasonably sized detached house with 3 bedrooms and just me and the GF.

Gas is 65 per month

Elec is 25 per month

We both work, but the PC's (at least 2) are on whenever we are in. GF is real good at energy efficiency bulbs and the like, so i reckon thats a good reason why we dont use much elec.

Just to clarify the current rate of FITs payable to under 4kw PV systems eligible for the original rate is 45.4p plus 1.6p (50% of the 3.2p export tariff, you're deemed to export 50% of production) so 47p in total from 01/04/12 to 31/03/13
From 1st April 2013 the combined total payable rises to 46.81p per kWh with 3.3p for export (so 50% = 1.65p for each kw) total payable 48.46p
Not quite at the 50p mark yet Spit

Difficult to work out with British Gas billing being overly confusing and incorrect half the time. But it looks like it will be about £800 per year.

Small 1 bedroom house with 1 person living in it, only electric heating no gas.

Electric has just gone up to £363 a month
Gas stayed the same at £170 a month
Was offered a lower tariff for electric to save £36 i just laughed no thanks.

I'm curious...how do you use that much? Do you have a mansion or a power-hungry business?

I have a standard terraced house with 2 large bedrooms and 4 other rooms and I use about £70 a month in gas and about £30 a month in electricity, and I'm pretty careless about my gas use because I use radiators for drying clothes.

It's interesting to see the enormous variation in costs, from £500 a year to £2300 per year without a huge difference in property sizes. I'm not including the people being massively subsidised for having solar panels, which is just a stupidly wasteful subsidised savings scheme for people who are rich enough to pay the initial cost of kit that's nowhere near viable in this country.

I worked it out that our storage heaters used about £15-£17 a month per heater when on (economy 7 - hard wired to only be able to be 'on' during 12:30am-7:30am), which can mount up if you think about having 5-6 in the apartment (3 bed).

Noticed the increase in bills Nov-Feb but we only really had 2 on during this time (our bedroom and lounge). We only have one on now which is in lounge and that's on low because its warming up a bit outside so don't see the point in shelling out for them anymore.

Hate Economy 7 and also hate the fact that we can't turn these on manually. Having said that I borrowed my brothers gas heater and bought a 15kg Calor canister for it for £32 in December, still some gas left in it now, worked a treat for taking the chill out of a room during the colder weather we've just had. Well worth the £32 or however much it cost - its nice to have 'on-demand' heat!

Our monthly spend was £55 when we started, then they upped it to £68 for a few months, now they've just reduced it down to £48 as we're in credit a fair bit. This is an all electric flat, no gas, 2 people living there. I'd say our annual spend would be around £600 if averaged out, so yeh i'd say yours is way over the odds, unless you have all the heaters on full whack all the time or you're not utilising your Economy 7 properly.

In our next place I'm definitely having central heating, not farting about with this Economy 7/Storage Heater nonsense!

lol. I am not rich. The solar panels cost less than my hatchback.

tell you what - why dont you re-read it??????::p;)

Economy7
storage heaters

not 7 storage heaters

Edit

I presume you do know I am replying to norms post in which he states 7 heaters?

It takes a great man to admit hes wrong and didnt see norms post.... I must be a great man lol

I thought you were refering to the op lol

1 bed house which is all electric. Just me living in it and yearly I pay about £550 in electric on a key meter.

Seems I am doing okay then compared to some.

if anyone one is interested i could see if i could mail the one from work to myself which also includes gas unit to kwh conversions at the current calorif values, kinda like what gilly is thinking about :)
