Cheapest place to get insurance for a 17yr old ?

It will depend on circumstances. Your best bet is to take a day and phone round all the insurers you can think of.

Get quotes, lots of quotes, compare the meerkat, confused, anything. Keep checking the same places over the space of a week, as for some bizarre reason the quotes can vary, even with the same info.

Dont get the saxo, its insurance group 7.

Get a corsa, Insurance group 3, should see that drop but quite some amount.

Especially the fact that saxos are seen as chav mobiles.

Have a look through the phone directory or get a motoring mag. There will hopefully be some companies who specialise in young drivers.

Also have a look at some of the black box schemes.

And Corsa's aren't?!

OP: You're asking the million dollar question. As said, you're best bet is just to persevere and look around as much as possible. Try adding your parents (especially mother) as named drivers, as adding experienced older drivers will often translate to less risk in the eyes of the insurer. It's boring and tedious, but it's the only way to get good results unfortunately.

Yaris, Fiesta, both cheap to run and typically cheap to insure.

Read through this whole thing, I find these to be a good comparison site, but it's worth trying all of them..

-Try adding parents as named drivers
-Don't get any car mods
-Try tweaking the mileage and excess figures

*Top tip, when you're entering your details, create a new email address and use a fake phone number, otherwise you sometimes get calls with offers from the insurers, can be a pain for a few days.

Good luck

106 same as the saxo.

Basically think of a car you don't want and they're the cars that are cheap :p

I actually found that I could have the car I wanted provided it was a diesel - shaved about £400 off my premium. The irony was that the diesel version had a bigger, more powerful engine but was ~0.5s slower to 60mph. :D

That was a Fiat GP at age 18 (didn't even have a manual license at the time!).

Except in the case of some cars. Such as the 0.8L daewoo matiz or the vauxhall agila to name a couple. Well from my experience a couple years ago, which were coming up equally as expensive, if not more than the typical corsa, fiesta, saxo, clio or micro.

Will the insurance price change if I add new alloy wheels and bucket seats ?
For alloys the price will most definitely rise as they would imagine boy racer straight away with the likely hood of showing off being put in there. Which then would increase their likelyhood of needing to make a pay out.
Not too sure on the seats though as I haven't ventured into the classification of mods before, but I would imagine that would be the same.

A lot of insurers will simply not touch you with any modifications due to age, where I used to work as soon as you answered yes to the mods question there was no point going any further unless it was in certain areas (like related to a disability).

ford KA is a group 2 i think, those are cheap run arounds, and not too bad for a first car, easy to fix and get parts for, and the cars themselves can be had dirt cheap if you look around, i was finding 53 plate models for 700/800 quid a few months back

(edit) was for the gf not me, iv got a 60 plate vw golf tsi :p
