I am looking to cancel some insurance with them as I am renewing with my bank due to being a lot cheaper for the same policy. - However when trying to cancel with Endsleigh they want me to pay £30 or so to cancel due to being in a year contract. - Can I not give them a months notice to cancel and not pay this fee?

Seems bizarre that I have to pay to cancel when I am giving them a months notice.

(The adviser at the bank mentioned about this fee and said that I am not entitled to pay a cancellation fee).

It does say:

8.Cancellation
This Home Policy may be cancelled by:
a) You notifying Us or Our Authorised Underwriting Agent that You
require Your Home Policy to be cancelled. Cancelling the direct debit
instruction does not mean You have cancelled the Home Policy.
You have the right to cancel this Home Policy within 14 days of
receipt. You will be entitled to a refund of the premium paid less a
charge for the period You have been insured and a cancellation
fee charged by Our Autorised Underwriting Agent

Might be worth me paying the £30 free, as it renews in 5 months time, by the time 5 months has passed I would have made the £30 back from how much I save.

Yeah get it done dude :)
I regularly chop and change, just keep an eye on the Fee and % saving (for CC that one lol)

Also remember topcashback/quidco I save on my home insurance and got paid £50 thru TCB a while back :)

Thats a fairly reasonable "admin fee" compared to some I've seen

Had the same issue when I moved house. Only had 3 months left on the policy so it was cheaper to run the policy than cancel but yeah it's either pay to cancel or don't cancel.

My insurance told me about the 25 quid fee for changes or cancellation when I First took it out. As my insurance is so cheap I don't mind them taking a bit of admin if I do change things.

Bear in mind most such insurances also auto-renew. Check your T&C's or call them and specifically state you do not want it to auto-renew.

Well duh, cancel and pay the fee and learn what buggers they are for the future. :)
