Hi all, got my new U2412M yesterday, very happy with it overall except in some instances (particularly on these forums) I'm noticing text sometimes has a slight red outline to it. It's only really noticeable against the dark blue background, the text with the lighter blue background doesn't seem to manifest the same issue.

I've taken this fairly awful photo with my phone to try and show what I mean, it's more obvious than in the photo but if you look closely you can see some colouring along the edges of letters like R, L, M etc. Click the pic below to see the fullsize one:

I've tried adjusting the sharpness both up and down, taking sharpness to zero does help a bit but obviously makes the display a blurry mess, and taking it past 50 just seems to accentuate the issue.

Is this just normal behaviour that I need to get used to with IPS displays, or do I need to consider returning it?

Edit: Slightly better pic, if you look at the 'll' in 'gallery' you'll see what I mean with the colour around the edges of the letters. It doesn't appear red in the photo but to the eye it does:

And in fact, I'm even noticing a slight red tint to the square brackets in the BBcode while I'm writing this post. :(

Try again with the settings mate.
There's a Service menu there too, not sure if your aware. gives more detailed control over settings but be careful, theres no backup or restore function - you have been warned! :)

To access Dell 2412 service menu:
* Monitor off
* Hold down two top buttons and switch on
* wait a few seconds + let go
* press top button for service menu.

Right, I think this is probably the best example I'm going to get with my phone's camera:

Again, you'll have to click the image above (and then again on the next page) to get the full size version.

If you look at the 'Shrink' text pop-up from the YouTube player, you can see the coloured edge along the vertical outline of the letters.

I definitely never noticed anything like that on my previous Samsung 20" LCD, so I'm rather disappointed at the moment.

Isn't that just ClearType? Either way, yours is a million times better than mine. Text on mine looks horrendous and I can't fix it.

Really? That sounds rather bad, certainly not the sort of thing you'd expect from what's supposed to be a high-quality display.

have you tried with and without Cleartype on? im wondering if what you're seeing is just down to the pixel alignment on these H-IPS type displays. could be that

Take a look the output settings in the monitor, had something similar with my old 2407fpw turned out be to set in mac mode instead of PC causing red/pink shadows when you dragged windows.
