Howdy,

So the girlfriend has discovered PCP, I always thought it was a bad idea but when I read into it, it suits her needs perfectly, she wants a new car to replace her death trap KA which is contantly going wrong, a monthly payment with everything included and simply hand it back after three years sounds quite good but where are the negatives?

She isnt fussed about never owning the car, the only things I can think of is if it gets damaged, what happens there IE will they reject it or ask for a payment because its lost its value say if it went onto V-Car for example?

What other pitfalls are there to consider? At this stage for her needs it all seems a little too good to be true

Thanks

It isn't a monthly payment with everything included. Thats a maintained lease, which is pretty expensive.

A PCP is just a way of funding a new car - it doesn't include running costs (And those that do only do so because of manufacturer offers on new cars ie 5 years servicing or whatever, which would apply if you paid cash, too).

Ah I see, I read the below and thought it might be an optional extra but didnt realise at what cost

"Include additional optional products such as fixed-cost maintenance in your motoring budget"

shes basically renting the car and paying the companies depreciation for them, plus they tend to rape over the smallest of marks etc. when you give it back.

Exactly, it's saying you can buy extra stuff (like you can paying cash or with a bank loan) and finance that, too. Many manufacturers offer servicing packages when the car is new. For low mileage users few of them will save you money.

I just took that £99 juke offer up should have it in the next couple of weeks, saves me money over running the wife's e39 and solves lots of problems

Maintenance was £8 per month eo which we took and tyres and rfl are included in the £99 headline figure

Small print was 99 + vat x 23 mnths plus 9 + vat mnths deposit

Thats a crazy deal - £1200 a yea inc tyres? Where did you find that, got a link?

Or is it a company car hence not at all comparable?

Why does she want to throw money away?

Loaded init bruv

Who did you do a deal with and do they deal with personal?

Tilsun, it was the Juke deal posted here a while a go

Works out break even if I took zero depreciation on the E39, the deal breaker for me is that I get an additional £48 per month from the firm from having the lower C02 of the Juke than my E60 and for the foreseeable future I train to London so whatever I have sits on the drive all week, the wife will use the Juke day to day and if I need to drive for work she can reluctantly drive the E60 and I'll have to take the Juke.

It's £2,164 per year including VAT and the deposit excluding the maintenance but including RFL and tyres.

You had to prove you were on a company car scheme however the guy said it made no difference if it were private, I think the credit check was more harsh for private but the rate was the same.

Again the guy at tilsun said they had too many ordered, they are all white with nothing anything else was dealer retrofit only, any other colour was 3 month wait.

We drove one a couple of weekends ago they weren't bad the 1.6 is quite acceptable. They are very small inside and the boot is tiny but really for her to drive to work 5 days a week is perfectly fine.

She hates the e39 and any breakdown is my fault because she couldn't have a new car, she has zero mechanical sympathy so this ticks all the boxes and I don't have to worry about her car now ever.
