Just received a text from orange to say my monthly bill will be increasing, due to orange inflation.

If I signed a contract stating my monthly bill was £30, should they be allowed to up my monthly price?

It's not much, about £2 per month.

Waiting for the s4 to come out myself then all the s3 should get cheaper then im jumping ship from Orange, 2nd price hike I can remember in the last two years.

it's probably in your terms and conditions saying what percent they can up the price without breaking your contract

They're allowed to raise the price as long as it's not above the rate of inflation which is around 3% at the moment iirc. There was a thread about it the other day.

Unfortunately Yes, apparently its in the small print. Funny enough this was on the X-Ray show the other day and all providers can do it they are just not informing their customers when they take out the contracts.

Suck it up, T&Cs for phone contracts have been updated with this clause for a good few years now.

We are a world of people who don't read T&Cs though :D

But even if we did read them, we can't stop them. If all the companies are doing this we can't have a contract without agreeing to it, so we may aswell not read it in the first place.

Mine went up in February due to inflation, only by about 30p. o2 said they can do it under their T&Cs and were holding it off for months bla bla bla!

You could go pay as you go or with a rolling monthly deal if you were that fussed about it.

I wonder, if you were to go into e.g. an Orange shop, and amend the contract (e.g. by removing that clause) before signing it, would the salesperson in the shop be able to accept the amended contract, and would it be legally binding?

1. They are set contracts, they would never remove something like that.
2. Unlikely as it would probably just be under some 'mistakes' clause.

So that's two increases now - one in Jan 2012 (4.34%) and one now (£2).

If you were on a 24 month contract on £36 per month, that's about an extra 10% since the contract began...

Anyone here on Orange Care? That's the insurance component of the phone bill. I had a letter to say that it's going from £6 to £8, which is a 33% increase, in top of my 3.3% on the regular bill! Needless to say, I cancelled Orange Care and stuck the SGS2 on my house insurance.

Dial 150 then opt 1 if you want to cancel :-)

water bill, council tax, electricity/gas, line rental, internet and mobile phones all gone up recently  its not much but it adds up when your wages have stood still for 5 years

You should have the option to decline the increase (usually in writing), as (regardless of their small print) it's a unilateral change to the contract.
ISTR Virgin Media were very hesitant to allow me to cancel my subscription without attempting to charge me (it was a 12 month contract), until I mentioned their own Terms & Conditions regarding price increases...
Be worth checking it out.
