***The Official Sony Xperia Z Thread ***

I picked one of these up over the weekend. Main reason was being fed up with o2 and constantly having to top up my internet due to them not doing an unlimited tariff, so as a birthday present I bought myself out of my contract and picked one of these up on three. Anyway, coming from my HTC Sensation XE the Xperia is a stunning phone, I loved my HTC but this is in a different league. I was going to wait for the HTC One but this clinched it for me in the end, just preferred the look and feel, and the fact that it's waterproof is a good party trick.

Yes, I could've waited for the Galaxy S4 but in all honesty I've never been a huge fan of the design of the Galaxy series, I'm sure it'll be a great phone but specs aside, unless they break with tradition I can't see it appealing to me.

Only real criticism I can level at the Xperia Z is the position of the power button, I just find it more natural to have it on the top, especially when removing the phone from my top pocket at work, but other than that I can't fault it, the viewing angle 'issue' doesn't bother me at all, why would anyone veiw the phone from anything other than straight on anyway? The screen looks stunning to me.

Very happy, and as a side note I'm impressed with the data speed I'm getting from three too, averaging just over 6mb here at work, much better than the pathetic o2 speeds, which struggled to hit 1mb on a good day.

Very happy :)

Have to laugh at the number of headphones on Ebay, last week there were 5 , now there are are hundreds, lots hoping to get £ 200, with 1 bid of £ 100 between them.

Very happy so far but I wish the back was rubber not glass I am not used to cleaning off so many fingerprints.

Camera zoom is dissappointing but has a good panorama feature

Screen colour and viewing is great, no complaints at all ITRW

I don't have an Xperia Z, I have an S3 but thanks for the "tone". My point is your post was bordering on trolling and had zero detail around what "flaws" you refer to. Presumably your 13k posts are also light on any useful content?

Please link to professional reviews referring to a flawed phone also.

Any review you read will list what it considers as the flaws (pretty standard procedure for reviews I believe), go read them. Just because it is OSny's best phone, doesn't mean that it doesn't have flaws.

And so far in this thread we have complaints of:

  • Screen (probably the worst complaint to have)
  • Some lag with the UI (bad, considering how powerful the CPU is)
  • Camera (poor performance vs even iPhone 4)

if those are not major flaws in a brand new 2013 smartphone then I don't know what your definition of a flaw consists of.

But sure, throw the trolling card around and refer to my post count, that's usually easier. :)

camera is not really bad :) burst is crazy fast too.. but each phone will have some flaws, in this case a screen is a bit of a big deal.. if it really is that important for you(the viewing angles i mean)

Out of those the only one I can really agree with is the slight, and I mean slight ui lag. In fact, I wouldn't even call it lag as such, just a few dropped frames. There are already ROMs out that fully enable hardware acceleration of the ui, which apparently solves the issue.

Ok so that's something Sony should've done in the first place, but it's not a deal breaker IMO, it's not like the phone feels sluggish or anything.

lets be honest screen could have been better! by no means is it bad but being the flagship device sony should have put the best they have.. :o

Coming from a HTC Sensation it will seem mind-blowingly good.

Enjoy!

I've honestly got no issues with the screen  It's bright, crisp, and colours are nice and deep and really 'pop'. The viewing angles could be better, but funnily enough I only ever look at my screen from directly in front of it ;)

As somebody mentioned before, the fact that Sony use a dark grey ui doesn't help it's cause.

Amazons deal of having it reduced from £550 to £515 and adding a £50 voucher to use in Amazon clinched it for me. I have ordered it now. If i don't like the screen back it goes :p

I was initially interested in the htc one but prefer the design of this much more.

Pitty Sony always has to be a generation behind in processor though.

Why couldn't they use the 600 over the s4 pro?

It actually is better if you get the model for Japanese market, Sony know the international screen is sub par.

However re my previous comments on the ergonomics, I use a case in daily use so the edge issue would be moot.

I am pretty sure that has been debunked now. It is actually the Jap model is using a black theme rather than a grey theme.

Not that you'll notice any difference.

Phew if that is the case, I had another look in 3 and o2, tbh navigating through the menu trying things out and the screen was OK head on and not rubbish from quite an extreme angle.

If one of my sons wanted this phone I wouldn't say "no cos it's carp", I would say wait and see what the S4 is saying.
