I got my system delivered today, got it all set up and started with my driver updates. I got COREtemp to keep an eye on those toasty Ivy-bridge cores. My system is as follows

i7-3700k @4ghz, Z77 mobo, K2 mount doom cooler, CR400 crosair case, MIS 7950. My problem is I've already seen the temperatures hit 90c and above, on day one!! is this normal? I am a little worried its gonna become a problem now.
I was installing windows updates and updating BF3 at the time, and the temp spiked here and there. Hit 80c and dropped to 50c then back to 90 for a few seconds. Am I worried too much or is this an issue? Cos I haven't even played a game yet and I'll want to be gaming for hours at a time. any advice ye can give me or anythin please??

the rig is sitting on a desk so its noting to do with bad airflow I think.

something wrong for sure... I suspect a problem with mounting on cpu cooler.. no way should it hit 90c especially on 4ghz... I run my 2700K on 5.0 and that bareley hits above 70... with antec kuhler 620 which is no way better cooler than k2.

Avoid putting strain on cpu, till its sorted... 90c is very bad..

Without a doubt this ^^

Either fix it yourself (not too difficult tbh) or phone OcUK tomorrow for advice.

I just had a quick go off BF3 to seem if it was maybe a problem just when multitasking... not the case. Nearly got a heart attack when I saw it hit 100oc so i just closed BF and shut everything down. Took a look inside and seems gibbo is right. the heatsink is loose, when the computer lies on its side it moves about 4-5 cms in on direction with a very gentle wiggle. I've never gone at the inside of a computer so unless the problem is very easy to fix, im in trouble. FFS, only arrived today and I already have issues. Its always the same with me and tech. for now I'm not gonna do any more CPU intensive tasks.

Do you guys think i could just fix it myself if its that lose? and if so, are there any instruncion threads? or should i just ship it back??

It is a very simple clip system, depending on the cooler it can be 2-4 clips. It is very simple to remove but depending if you have big fat fingers like me, can be tricky getting back on.

Just have a bash at it, it is impossible to break bud lol.

Find the clip, take it off then put it back on and tighten the clip.

A screenshot of the cooler would help.

it sounds to me the cooler came loose or got twisted in shipping. Testing systems with full heat load always occurs and this would not be shipped with those temps. Contact system support for assistance.

You did remove the blue packaging within the system????

Mount doom is two screws guys after removing fans which are clips.

CPU-z is telling me I have 1.308v.

Its a K2 mount doom, beast of a thing! and I do have fat fingers :/ maybe its best left to the professionals! I'm gonna attempt a fix but If i don't get anywhere this baby is going back to its daddy's. is there anything else it could be too?? dodgy processor? faulty senors?? or just rough handling by those dam curiors!!! :?

I took some pictures but I dont know how to post them up. there is a clearly visible angle the heatsink is sitting at compared to the top of the ram. Theres about 2 cm of movement up and down with a gentle wiggle. Dam, it musta got a bad knock from somewhere en-route

Its strange they sent it with the cpu cooler installed, thats a good way to wreck a motherboard; when i got my overclockers system they tested then took the cooler back off to prevent damage in transit.

Upload your photos to imageshack or Photobucket and these will provide a link for you copy and paste onto the forum.

ok, its fixed :D I opened up my rig, took out the GPU, detatched the fans on the heatsink, screwed out the heatsink, removed the contact, and replaced it all. Running cool now getting a max of 45oc on BF3, gonna run it through prime now
