New job, Car or Flat?

You can't decide between having your own place or a new car? Despite the fact you have a car that is fully functioning.

FFS man, I HATE this planet.

Make me out to be some sort of scum here? Not very helpful really. Nothing nice/helpful to say, don't say it.

Kill 2 birds with one stone and get a flat car!

I don't quite get this obsession on OcUK for buying a house/flat. What's wrong with renting? It's quite rare for someone who's 23 to have enough built up savings to buy a place - he's even mentioned renting in a couple of his posts.

Nothing wrong at all with renting.

I'd imagine it's because the denizens of this place are (largely) a savvy bunch and paying off someone else's mortgage instead of your own is just bad business.

Flat for sure! Start looking asap!!

And open a savings account and standing order each month... before you know it...

CAR :)

Go and post this over in the motors section and see what results you get there :D

But as most have said, push yourself financially as much as you can with a flat/house now, in a few years you will be able to afford a nice car and have the benefit of a better property under your belt.

Because at the moment with the rent I'm paying I'd be able to pay a good sized mortgage and have something to show for it, instead I'm paying someone else's mortgage and will have sod all to show for it.
Unfortunately it's not something I have a choice in at the minute but the moment I do I'll be off paying for my own house not someone else's.

Must admit, I don't frequently post in this section so I've inadvertently contributed.

Renting has its place :coolpun:. But judging from the information we had I saw the chance for Bananaa to consider not buying a car or renting a place. As you say, it's rare for someone at 23 to have enough savings to buy a place. The same is true here, considering he is 23 and looking to rent/finance a car tells me he doesn't have stockpiles of cash, yet. What he does have is the similarly rare opportunity to save.

I suppose the ideology I'm trying to promote here is, don't borrow when you don't need to. But that need doesn't have to be some desperate cause, it could be feeling restricted in the family home and desire for more freedom.
