My OH has got a job in Cheltenham and I'll be working in Hereford. Where would you suggest moving to? Looking on the map Ledbury looks good but there doesn't seem to be much to rent in the area.

Fiancée used to live in the Gloucester area 'till she moved up to Stoke, with me. God knows why anybody would be willing to move to Stoke, but there we go.

Either way, after going back and forth for around 5 or so years I can honestly say the Abbeydale area is pretty nice, if you can find something there. Relatively close to the town centre with many local shops around. And pubs! Definitely worth a look.

Stroud :D

Lovely place, easy travel links, relatively small town but with good internet and good schools with a low crime rate. Has a bit of a hippy style reputation though, but on the plus side, best farmers market in the country (officially!)

Thanks, we've been looking at Abbeydale.

I would agree with that, although I'm not sure if Hereford would be a sensible commute. Google maps quotes it as taking 1:15, which seems about right. It's been a good while since I made that trip.

What sort of place are you looking for?

Abbeydale is a nice area defo, stroud is full of strange people haha :)

There's nothing strange about liking folk music and living on a diet of real ale and organic tofu.

EDIT: And it's much better then Swansea!!!!!

EDIT EDIT: And don't go near Tetbury unless you like Antiques and nothing else!!!

EDIT EDIT EDIT: And the less said about Dursley, the better (JR Rowling visited there and then named the Dursley family after it).

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: and Cam is Dursley's slightly less desirable suburb.

!!

Nothing strange about the first part, or the second. Everything about tofu is strange though. :p

Everyone should come to Stroud just for the farmers market.....wine lady, Thai food stand and AWESOME doughnuts are a must.

EDIT: As for all your edits i highly agree!

Malvern, Ledbury or even Worcester.

Worcester would give your OH easy drive to work with the M5. You just have the Worcester road to contend with, it's not that bad, about 35 min drive average.

Or Ross on wye, happy medium, 20 min from Hereford.

I live in Dursley and really like it. Great countryside all around and a small town with a surprising number of decent shops, plus one of the finest pubs I know.

In my opinion, massively more pleasant than Yate, where JK Rowling grew up.

But getting back to the topic, I wouldn't recommend it if you need to commute to Hereford...

Stroud is too far for me, sorry. It takes me 1h10 from Quedgeley and I don't hang about, it's at the upper limit of what I'd consider to commute.

Don't move to Worcester.

The Worcester - Hereford road isn't great & one of you would to enjoy crossing the Severn to start your commute and finish your journey home.

I live in Hereford. It's pretty expensive to live here tbh (no idea why). Plenty of rental options to chose from though, no idea about surrounding areas mind.

Check out places like Newent, Ross on Wye etc....

Not all of Tewksbury floods, it's a cheaper place to live actually, quite historic, beautifully picturesque place withe the Avon and Severn, not rough but it feels a bit of a soul-less place, as well as the town not really having anything in it worth mentioning. However it is directly on the M5 so easy access (15 mins) to Cheltenham for everything you ever need from a town (shopping, clubs, cafe's and restaurants galore.
If you have a bit more disposable, then I would heartily suggest living here in Cheltenham, it does have its rough areas like anywhere (they are on the outskirts of town anyway) but the town centre is a buzzing vibrant place with style and has a much more upmarket feel about the place altogether.
As for Gloucester.. It's very cheap to live over there but I wouldn't!! Horrid decrepit part of the shire it is.

Tewkesbury or Cheltenham I'd have to agree, great links with the motorway and M50. Folk from Ross, Stroud and the likes are weird and Ledbury is polish only I'm afraid.

Oh, Gloucester is Ok in general and it tends to be cheap but the Shurdington road and golden valley are always manic in the mornings and it's far easier getting in/out from the Tewkesbury side.
