MK4 Golf Wishbone Replacement. What a PITA!

Quit moaning about me charging my sister.

I don't get paid for taking time off work! Why should I lose money whilst lay on the floor in the rain? Jeez.

Also (And this has been followed up by HMRC on occasion) strictly speaking if you do a "Favour" you still owe the treasury the Tax money that you would have owed if you had charged normally! Even if you haven't actually received any money!

Do you charge her for coffee when she comes round for a cuppa too ? :p

As already mentioned, if the taper is spinning, put a trolley jack under the wishbone, lift it and let it take the load so it doesn`t quite lift the car, that is usually enough tension to lock the taper and allow the nut to be undone. :)

Sisters are weird. Mine offers money or even gives me a cheque, wouldn't actually cash it tho Taken cos that would be odd!

I shall definately try that in future! (Not the coffee)

I'm always wary about sticking a jack under something though, just incase it puts the car off its axle stands

My sister and I do not get along at all. She penny pinches.. lives at home, and in general is just an ***. £100 is maybe a bit too much, I was saving her money compared to the garage so I though it was ok. What would you suggest? :p

A surprisingly common contributing factor in the failure of small businesses is doing too many "Favours" for family and friends!

Does Taken run a garage business then? It certainly doesn't sound like it from his post. If not, why is this remotely relevant?

The thought of charging a family member or close friend for helping them out simply wouldn't cross my mind, but then again some families have relationships that seem very odd to me.

You`re not trying to lift the car, just compress the suspension and put load into the balljoint taper so it doesn`t spin ;)

.....and when the nut is towards the end of the ball joint shaft, it collides with the CV joint........

No.

If he had received money for the job done, then yes, technically speaking he would need to declare the extra income and pay the appropriate tax. However if you don't receive any money then of course you don't pay tax. Don't advise on things you don't know, you're talking ****.

To be fair, whenever I help my sister out, she always slips me a few quid for helping her out - we have an unspoken agreement in that respect. I certainly don't ask for it though.
