*** League of Legends ***

Hi again.
Decided to start playing solo top as I got bored of Support for now. I'm really enjoying it but my only problem is that I'm not getting that much farm in lane. I'm normally at about 60 at around 20 mins into the game, and my friends are telling me that that is bad lol.
Any tips? Only played as Akali, using Q for max poke.

Akali is very difficult to farm with early game until your E gets some levels and items behind it. That said, they are fairly right - PERFECT cs at 20 minutes is 207 (That's Froggen-tier not missing a creep or leaving the lane for long enough for a minion to die) - 80 cs by 10 minutes is a good target, 150 by 20. On Akali I'd say normally you're more likely to be killing your target than farming though. Her biggest strength is her ability to just repeatedly shut down her opponent. A kill on an enemy is roughly 15 CS (without bonuses for ending sprees), so if you sacrifice CS to get kills, it's not as bad. It all depends on how high-risk you're playing akali and how aggressive you are.

The problem comes if you're not killing AND you're not farming, in which case an Akali who is falling that far behind is not a happy akali :L

Need to fill my AP rune page, should be hitting 30 next week. What runes should I get?

Pretty champion dependent. A good base AP rune page (at least to my/many other people's preferences) are 3x AP Quints, 9x MPen reds, 9x Ability Power yellows, 9x Magic resist blues.

Good targets for cs for a solo lane if you aren't well practised is 60+ by 10 minutes, ~150 by 20 minutes.

Few tips:

Make good use of the "stop" command, default key is 's' iirc, it makes your character stop but also not auto attack even if stuff is in range, this allows you to "prep" a last hit.

Prioritise cs over poke unless you know your poke will be meaningful, poking at the expense of your last hitting when you probably won't get a kill out of it actually hurts you as much as your enemy.

Do not attack creeps until you can last hit them, also pay attention to how much damage they are taking from your friendly minions, this will help you get an idea of when to last hit.

Thanks for the tips guys.
Another thing my friends were talking about is items as a top laner - I was originally just following a build guide by Voyboy and my first item being the Hextech Gunblade all the time but they were saying I needed items for different situations. I was up against a Riven and he was absolutely hammering me. I originally had a hextech revolved but they said that the Seeker's Armguard was better to use against a hard hitting champion like Riven. I would like to know when and what items to buy for these different situations, or if there is a list anywhere please could you link it
Thanks one more time, lol

This is an experience thing, there are no real lists or anything because eventually and ultimately, you'll be learning to itemize against whole 5-man teams, and to synergize with your own team; not just deal with your lane opponent. Riven is a hard counter to Akali and her damage output is going to continually squash you to be very honest. It's about playing smart. But your friends aren't even talking best there. Seeker's Armguard provides armour, which yes is going to help massively against Riven who deals attack damage and therefore armour reduces this damage. But The Hextech Gunblade is still your CORE item on Akali because it gives you the lifesteal/spellvamp and therefore sustain to stay alive, without that, the small amounts of damage you're resisting aren't going to help because she can use her damage a lot more frequently than you can.

Honestly, Riven is probably the hardest match-up you'll ever hit with Akali, and a really good Riven will poop on you harder than the ones you're playing against now XD.

Best bet is not to pick Akali into a Riven matchup, it's just not sensible. If you're playing blinds and picking Akali and happen to face Riven, you need to basically stay back, let her push up towards your turret and then last-hit with just your aa's and Q so as not to push the wave back. Hopefully a friendly jungler will help you out, considering that is literally the scariest matchup you could find aside Viktor.

You still want Gunblade first, then Seeker's (Into Zhonya's) in a matchup against Riven. But either way, you're not going to beat the Riven in lane unless they derp hard. Make good use of your shroud and hide. Farm. That's about all.

Sorry for long post.

Thanks a lot again for the copious amounts of info :P! It doesn't bother me if people are posting long comments in response to my questions, I'm learning about the game!
So basically you're saying that depending on the other teams comps, I have to adapt to it and buy items that can counter them?
For example, I've just been playing against bots to look at all of the items and trying to figure out when and why I should buy items - I think I kind of get it but I just need a confirmation.
For example; I'm laning vs a magic dmg heavy champ building AP - Would an Abyssal Sceptre be a good buy for this situation since it gives a hefty amount of ap and magic resist?
And is there any situations where I'm going to be buying full armor items like Warden's Armor for example?

Thanks again.

Precisely. Although, I would personally only buy an Abyssal Scepter if either a) my opponent is beating me substantially in trades or b) I have been counter-picked and face a Leblanc/Kassadin/Fizz. Out of laning phase you may want to consider one if they are an AP heavy team comp.

Another example is if you are playing top lane as a Vladmir and your lane opponent is a Riven then you may want to buy a Doran's Shield, or perhaps even two, as her damage will be significantly decreased.

Yet another example, but this time out of laning phase, is that you may be playing a carry that is being locked down in team fights by something like a Malzahar/Amumu/Warwick and need to be able to get rid of debuffs instantly. In this case, buying a Quicksilver Sash will be of great benefit.

One thing I will add though is that playing with bots is hopeless. Just jump right into normal draft pick games against real opponents and you will learn much more. Also, head over to SoloMid and have a look at champion specific guides for tips and item builds.

Hmm. I kind of get it, but I'm not really familiar with most of the champions on the game bar the ones I've personally played, which Isn't much (20 odd). So I guess that would make it harder for me to know what I'm up against and what I should be buying :/

Any of you lot looking for a casual team?

Ideally looking for people that want to eventually start doing Ranked 5v5s.

One slot as Jungler.

Is there any top champs you recommend, I've played Jax ONLY until lvl 19.

Garen, Renekton, Wukong, Pantheon, Riven.

All solid top laners. Garen especially is disgustingly consistent, passive heal over time, silence, speed boost, slow removal, execute. He has literally everything.

I'm quite enjoying Nasus top at the moment, farm till 20 minutes, proceed to ruin ****. That and chunking towers for 1/4 of their HP per Q is amusing.

Yeah i've played garen top a lot and his is pretty consistant. His q is a silence and speed buff. His w is a shield, e is a good aoe dmg (spin to win) an his ulti is good cos its like an assasinate for targets with low hp !

Hunders was right. Like I said, experience thing :P. Abyssal is not a bad buy in those cases, you just have to be careful how you itemize relative to gold and build order - but when I said experience, I mean it in a more subconscious way than straight out knowledge of the game. The more you play, the more you will gain an idea of what does and doesn't work personally against certain champions, and as certain champions. Watching professional play and paying attention to how they itemize is a great way to learn simply because you'll get to understand why they pick certain items. Before you really try to grasp how item countering works you need to grasp much more basic stuff in my opinion, work on your mechanical skill - last hitting, harrassing, objective control - because at lower levels of play, item countering isn't going to contribute anywhere near as much as those things. Getting a basic understanding of why champions counter each other though, that will benefit you massively. I suggest you watch pro players stream (even in their downtime whilst they are just solo-queuing) because a lot of them explain their item choices and so forth. Westrice and Voyboy are two pro players who pick Akali often in solo-queue if you're interested in maining her.

Though this isn't always the best thing (because you should be experimenting somewhat and understanding items yourself) - guides on Lolpro, Lolking, Mobafire, Team SoloMid etc can be helpful - some of the better/longer ones may even contain explanations as to why different matchups are harder/easier.

started today with 84 points.. played 6 games, won 1 of them.. rest were troll teams and rage players, now have 1 point.. GG, i just want to play a legit game without trolls and useless people, its ranked for christ sake, someone actually told me earlier not to concentrate on last hitting minions, but just to attack the champions.. like really?
