Have a sound Blaster X-Fi, love the card and its has given me problems before but now its just gone to buggery.

Left the Pc its was playing fine, came back ( about 10 mins later) it wouldn't play back sound and stopped the players ( iTunes/ Soundcloud) from playing back, occasionally you got the odd click but that was it.

Have taken it out, tried another slot and uninstalled the drivers and associated programmes, but the PC ( W8) just isn't picking it up right ( though this has happened before to my annoyance)

Manager is seeing it as a Multimedia Audio controller, and that's it, update driver yields no results, its location shows fine.

Creative driver will not install as it comes up with a message about not being able to detect any of its hardware.

Running out or I am in fact out of ideas.

Just to add, Motherbaord built in sound works fine.

Any thoughts?

My old Audigy 2 appeared to randomly deteriorate a few years ago. Wasn't complete death but just stored working properly in DirectSound3d games one day.

Only other thing you can do is try it in another PC. I've had a vaguely similar issue with an onboard component that disappeared mysteriously and I thought was dead. It magically re-appeared after I reinstalled windows which was a surprise!

I wouldn't go and reinstall windows just to see but if there's a PC you can test this in then that would be the best thing (mate's PC or someone else in the house?)

Can try Dads machine...just its all a PITA, and theirs no good sound cards with a connection face for the front.

Well, never mind, switched my machine back on, the little flag appears to tell theirs something wrong with the sound card, and following it processed to find and reinstall the driver for me and its working again like new.

Don't know if its down to W8 or Creative/ 3rd parties getting their act together for this kind of thing, but colour me impressed!
