Sennheiser PC 323D G4ME Headset

Because it's a stereo headset, there are only two channels. It uses Dolby Headphone and Dolby ProLogic to create the 5.1/7.1 effect.

but i was thinking that i should still be able to change these options on the provided sound driver?

i still think those options provide an impact?

Sorry, when you said change from 2CH, I thought you were asking why you couldn't select any more than two physical channels.

Well looking at that, then yes you should be able to select all of the available. I can't see any reason for them to be there if they are not selectable. Although there are only two physical channels, those options options should allow to select what output Dolby Headphone gives you.

Rroff might know. He has used these Sennheiser headsets. They all use the same USB device, or at least have the same options.

Edit: Have you tried the headset with Windows 7 at all? Wondering if there is some problem with W8 drivers. Seems strange why it would be the same on two different computers.

Sorry never had that issue - I've only used them on Windows 7 tho, its always let me select 7.1 CH. What output is set in the windows playback/speaker setup?

Thanks Rroff! just did what you mentioned and it's working now! :D

To clarify in more detail for anyone else using windows 8 etc
Sound > Selected and right clicked on "Sennheiser 3D G4ME1" > "Configure speakers" >

In other words it needs to be done manually, not just right clicking on the task bar!

I'm surprised that switching to 7.1 needed to be done in Windows sound properties first. I would have expected it to act in the same way it does when using a sound card; switching to 7.1 in the sound card control panel automatically changes in Windows sound properties as well.

Anyway, glad you got it working. :)

So you were able to get 7.1 surround sound by just manually configuring it in Windows 8?
I mailed sennheiser like a week ago and the person there said that they were still working on the windows 8 driver for it?

how's the surround sound in games? :)

Looks like the USB dongle might not work 100% in Windows 8 - C-Media just pushed an update for the chipset under Windows 8 so assuming Sennheiser haven't dropped support entirely hopefully an update soon.

Just had the same issue in Win 8 and Rroff's solution seems to have worked for me. Would be nice to have a more featured software as the headphones are brill.

Sorry for the mini necro but I was wondering if anyone has this headset even working normally in windows 8. By that I mean just actually allowing sound into them, mine seem to make the windows sound slider in the system tray fail (freezes. Have reboot to fix) and sound plays for a second and then stops. Still no windows 8 driver which isn't mentioned on the product page so I'm debating on sending them back as there's been no word on a driver and they plain just don't work.

The chipset for the dongle had a Win 8 update but last time I checked Sennheiser hadn't built their own version of it - no idea if its possible to hack up the generic driver.

I'd be tempted to send it back if you want to use the dongle under Windows 8 as it doesn't seem to be supported 100% with the 1.1 driver.

Just incase anyone interested it turns out theres been a driver all along, they just havent updated the relevant support pages, I found the 1.4 driver version on this page:

The release notes stating its windows 8 compatible

Go to "download" in the bottom left corner and grab the files, works perfectly for me. No more issues on windows 8. Pity they dont update:

Hope it helps.
