I unlocked the earthquake disaster by mining the crap out of the earth on one map. Not sure how to do the others yet though :)

Also I wish you could fight off the bloody lizard thing and aliens. I can understand being a bit powerless to the others but they kind of annoy me. At least let us use maxisman to kill them back.

Im on my... 6th city right now. Ive just plonked a university in and filled it completely. No room left to build anything. Think ill be deleting it and starting again soon...

That said when I managed to find a decent community ill be staying there.

They could even make a new awesome game mode where you can attack each others cities that would be epic
 
I'm finding it hard to make a decent profit even after filling almost half my zone.

the most I can seem to make in profits so far is about 1500 and end up getting bonds to pay for services that i need.

Can anyone advise on how I should start out as a a lot of services cost a lot of money and would take me ages to buy them.

Quite simply, slowly.

I hold back on services for as long as I can and only place the minimum to keep the place from going crazy. Even better if you have a nice neighbour get them to 'babysit' your city while you build up the profits to have your own.

I actually start my cities by roughly drawing out areas where I want things using basic roads (cheap and cheerful and can upgrade later). For example my last city had large ore and coal deposits so I drew circles using the roads around the richest parts. This marked my money areas which I filled with industrial zoning for the meanwhile. I then connected all the circles with again small roads (wont need anything large for now) and then made some sections where I thought was best for residential and commercial. I just pumped in as many as I could then.

I ignored buying utility buildings and bought them straight off my neighbour. You pay peanuts for them (a little more expensive htan your own yes) so its no biggy. Also I HIGHLY recommend you send waste (not garbage) to your neighbours where possible until you can afford a treatment plant. My reasoning for this is simply because the pipe thingies turn the surrounding ground into a hellish polluted mess which highly decreases the land value and takes an age to clean up. Sending your filth to your neighbour for a few bucks far outweighs spending a couple of hours in cheetah mode trying to clean the damn mess up.

Also its nice if when you build the services to send them off to help neighbours. They dont pay for it but you still get something back for it (apparantly). I do it mainly because im nice like that.

Its worth noting that if you have 2 police cars and assign both to neighbouring cities it DOESN'T mean you wont have any in your city. It basically means that when the need arises your cars will go to them and thus leave you without those cars for that short period of time.
