best FTP MMO at the moment?

At the risk of everyone rolling their eyes, I've gone back to Everquest for my annual nostalgia trip and rolled a new character. The new introduction to the game is a lot better than I ever remember and the zones seem pretty populated. They're lifting the restrictions on classes that can be rolled under F2P accounts soon which should make it a bit better.

I've been playing Tera, lvl 22 and enjoying it so far, can't complain at all for a free game.

I left this one downloading over night as my mate started it yesterday so will give it a go later, along with path of exile

I just want something addictive, like the first time i played wow back in the day! But thats hard to find these days as everything gets compared to wow for bettter or worse

Ive not seen this one in action! Is it free to play or is there a trial available?

its buy to play, so you buy the box then its free with an in game shop with additional content dlcs added over time, cosmetic stuff and xp boosts but no outright buy to win items. (an optional sub is available that offers some benefits but not required) each account has 3 buddy keys available which is a 72 hour trial from when you first login so you don't have to buy the box straight away. i still have all mine if you want one.

So that kind of works like gw2 then!

Ill look the game up today and see if it looks like ill enjoy it and if so a code would be lovely, ill get back to you thanks :)

Im back hooked on Rift. Although its only free to level 20.

Lotro bores the hell out of me now.

Another vote for LOTRO - been active on there now for 2 years and still enjoying it

Path of Exile is OKAY - though it's more a Diablo clone than a true MMO

TERA is okay for a quick blast ( though extremely repetitive questing)

and Age of Conan - OK if you like action based combat games but it could have been so much more

I'll get shot down but I have had more then my monies worth (I am a sub) from SWTOR - there are some stupid FTP restrictions (like helmet toggle) which should be standard; but honestly for the story alone its worth a shot.

I know you said you played it for a month during launch but it has come on a fair way since then :)

Simply NO. The SWTOR FTP model is the most retarded of them all. You have to pay to unlock additional quick bars..... simply WTF ? I was a subscriber to SWTOR since release and cancelled when it started getting dead. Came back for a week on FTP and it is simply awful. They restrict you in the worst ways possible in order to get you to take your credit card out.

Yea that model is a joke! Good old ea

Has lotro aged well visually? I may give this a go!

LotRO looks nice still but the animations are still as clunky as ever, I also found that you cant really go through from 1 - level cap without having to buy quest packs, you can level through but its monotonous and not very enjoyable. Make sure you pick the right server too as it can be a very lonely place.

GW2 is where its at :D

Viewing distance is not great, a lot of players are trying to get Turbine to increase viewing distance on objects, as the landscape looks bare in places.

Edit: Other than that, it's a great game.

Im in the same boat, been playing a bit of LOTRO but i got to 40 and then found i had to buy quest areas to continue so i have since given up, downloaded Tera again, got as far as the character select screen and decided i couldnt even bring myself to login.

Path of Exile isnt my thing either, i got burnt on D3 and now i wont go near another of that type of game for a while lol. Taken to installing NWN2 again to pass the time.

Secret World is an odd one, i bought it at release, couldnt really get into it, i think i done all of the quests in that first area with the bay etc, then moved onto the next area through the tunnel but found i couldnt handle the mobs there so gave up, ive gone back a couple of times but just cant seem to get into it, i dunno what it is, cos it looks gorgeous and runs really well on my PC, i like the skill system and stuff and quite like the setting tho im normally a pure fantasy type player.

Something about TSW just doesnt gel with me, cant put my finger on it cos i really want to like it.

To name a couple.

-Star Trek Online.
-Champions Online.
-Guild Wars 2 (pay for the game, no sub fees).
-LotRO.
-SW:TOR (some restrictions in place that may be a game breaker for you).
-DDO.

I think it still looks pretty good. Textures could do with a bit of an update, but it's easy enough on the eye:
