After a near silent PSU

Yes sent them a email on the day i installed it, something is not right. Don't get me wrong i do not have any coil noise or annoying clicking but i don't see why the fan would be changing rpm so often.

When it comes to those PSUs the fan is based on load or temp

I got the 1kw xfx so that it wouldnt use much of its capacity and stay cooler hence the fan being off 80% of the time.

As it stands my old ocz psu when it worked was no where near as loud as this Seasonic due to the fan keep kicking in, Just want to find the cause for it to keep increasing the rpm really as i have nothing running. Would changing the fan taking in air from the bottom of the case to take air from in the case make a difference?

I have mine pointing down ..ie taking air in through the case , i have 4 pcs here all with xfx PSUs all pointing down ..never even hear them....Ever :)

So yeah....I suppose it should be pointing down :)...or at least change it to down point, see if there is any difference

hmmm.... I went for the bigger psu in the end as it was on offer i would have thought the Seasonic X 1050w model would be just as quiet as the rest of the range.

Currently have the fan facing down bringing in cool air from underneath the case, but i will try the other way just to see how i get on. Always thought i would have best results pulling in air from outside the case rather than inside the case.

Oh I see right, well yes cooler air from outside would seem the better option I would have thought as well, but if you have the fan facing up ( inside ) the case you would i would have thought start pulling hotter air in through the psu ...so would that not make the temps even higher ?

I think pretty much across the board they are starting to use these "intelligent fans".
Pretty dumb idea IMO, I've had many High end PSU's with 120~140mm fans and under light load they are ultra quiet and the gentle breeze keeps everything cool, bet it's more down to the "gold" rating bs ;)

Still no reply from Seasonic, psu tried in both positions. Guess I’m stuck with it randomly spinning up to full rpm for the time being.

Had a corsair hx850 for about a year, and in that time I don't think I've ever heard it

Upgraded to a hx1050 and Jesus its annoying

At idle yeh it's quiet, but as soon as you do any gaming, or even just YouTube vids it seems as though the fan goes to max speed instantly, and WOW!!! it's loud, way louder than anything else in my case, even the sli 580's

Think it's going to have to go back

Can't understand how the manufacturers think this kind of fan behaviour is acceptable

Any Be Quiet! PSU is what it says ! I have one & its great, I've had a HX850 & a CM M850 & the Be Quiet! is whisper...

Are some of the Corsair psu the same design as the Seasonic at all? I am wondering now if i had of gone for a power rating if the fan would still be annoying.

I almost ordered a 850 XFX aswell which everyone seems to rate, doubt i can return the psu based on the fan noise though can i?

Good you got something sorted.

I'm not sure why they would make the lower wattage units quieter but the higher and more expensive ones not? Must have been a fault for sure.. Hopefully the platinum will do the trick :p

New one arrived today, Have not heard the fan kick in once so far, even with my system going through benchmarks. More importantly the fan is not spinning up every 5 mins driving me mad.
