Hello,

I was wondering if people knew of any good websites etc to look at for job hunting in the Manchester / Liverpool Area?

I am considering a move there from N. Ireland and want to look into jobs first.

Thanks

What kind of job are you wanting to do and what kind of qualifications do you have?

Most like some sort of accountancy / finance role ideally, but really I'd consider any business / office job I could get that had a reasonable pay / prospects.

I would quite like the idea of training as an accountant (I had started this before but didn't complete it). As I completed the first level of this before for CIPFA and was told that this was equal to or better than (their words) Accounting Technician level I may be able to enter as either Accounting Technician or trainee. If I trained as an accountant I would rather do it under ACCA.

The move is more to do with me wanting to move to the Manchester area and have a career change too (currently in an Economics role and would much rather go back to finance / accountancy) before it is too late as I am getting ever closer to the big 30.

As for educational background, I have CIPFA Certificate level professional accountancy, a 2.1 Economics and Management degree, 3 a-level / avce at A-C grade, and 10 GCSEs all A*-B grades.

Well I work for a large professional services firm in Manchester as an Auditor having previously worked for a big 4 firm in Manchester also.

You seem to have the right qualifications to potentially follow this path, either via AAT and ACCA or straight to ACCA if you can be accepted onto this stream with the qualification you already have (I did ICAS so not fully sure).

I could put you in contact with a recruitment consultant that I used to get the position I have at present. He has plenty of contacts both in industry and professional services depending on the type of role you want.

Your trust isn't configured though, do people need 250 posts to configure trust? I can't remember.

Think I have trust configured now, would be a good help to have a starting point for looking in Manchester.

I should stress though I'm not a qualified accountant, just part qualified and I would be planning redo it anyway from the beginning with ACCA. Just hoping I can find a job in an accountancy team ideally as an Audit Technician if they accept my part qualified status so that I can meet the practical experience requirements of the ACCA qualification.

I currently plan to put myself through ACCA, but would equally take a trainee position or AAT position if I could get these.

Trust sent with a bit more detail, i'll put this here though for those interested:

If you were to be successful joining the company that I work for in Audit then you would take one of two streams. The first is on the AAT stream. My understanding is that this takes 2 years and then you move onto the ACCA or ICAEW stream. Secondly, as you have a 2.1 degree, I think you might be able to start straight on the ACCA or ICAEW stream. It might depend on which country you obtained your degree in however. I thought that AAT was for people with no degree or a 2.2 or less degree.

I'm not sure what you expect from a salary, but there is a massive difference between those on the AAT stream and those on the ICAEW stream. To give you an idea, new starters on the AAT are earning around £14k pa, the ICAEW stream pays about £19-20k however.

Where do I find my 'trust' response? Is it somewhere on this forum?

I have checked my email account and don't seem to have received any email from you.

Thanks,

Sorry, I actually lied. I typed a big long message to you and then blooming IE crashed on me and I lost it. I'll retype tomorrow and send again. I'll type it in word first this time, lol.

Lol no worries, I thought something had gone wrong somewhere :P.

Anyway as for pay I'm not too concerned this move is more about a lifestyle change in moving to England and a change of direction in my career to accoutancy. Sort of come full circle, started with accountancy and now after experiencing other disciplines decided I want to do accountancy.

The move will likely involve a slight paycut for me, but I am prepared for that and to be honest if I got something around 18-20k mark I would be content, even better if it had study support.

But I am prepared to put myself through if that is the way things go, which is why I am also considering part-qualified and accounting technician jobs as they should satisfy any work experience requirements.

edit: kinobestew123 I have a list of websites that my advisor gave me although not specific by geographic area - you want me to write it or scan and send you a copy?

(also erashed part above for various reasons)

Get on jobsite and total jobs and make your CV visible. The recruitment vultures can then get a hold of it and if its decent you will be plagued by agencies. These are necessary evils these days but they will proactively identify jobs available and coming up if they think they can sell you. Some agree better than others. I used Michael page last time inc MCR and they were good in fairness.
