It's triple channel, so you should have enough bandwidth with 1600MHz, and CAS 9 is about as low as the memory controller can take at that speed.
Unless you are running your dominator at CAS 11 or less then there will be no increase in latency (1600MHz CAS 9 is the same latency as a theoretical 2000MHz CAS 11.5). If the dominator is running at CAS 12, you'll actually see a decrease in access latency (you would only notice it in a micro benchmark though).
I'd say 6G is just enough at the moment, but 12G gives you more headroom.
BTW is your 920 a D0? If so you should be able to get at least 3.8GHz out of it, if not, then at least 3.6.
