Hey chaps. My old sennheiser earphones are showing their age a bit now. Exposed cables and curley wires etc... so i am hoping you chaps have a preferance on some good new ones. Mainly its for listening to music on the bus to and from work. A little music at bedtime and on lunch... i like ambient and chillout kind of music so dont give a crap about bass lol. Some kind of noise cancelling would be very nice as i usually hear other peoples music on the bus clearer then my own. I dont like my music loud but i dont want to hear everyone elses either!

I think my budget is variable enough. If they were worth it i could go to 100 possibly! But only if every review is glowing :p so how abiut it chaps, what do you wear and what would you recommend?

Well, for travel I was recommended the SoundMagic E10, and they wre a good upgrade from my Senennheiser CX300 II. I noticed a little less bass but a more balanced sound, I'm hearing a tad more things in my music clearer than before. However, the build quality does feel pretty poor to be honest, but so far it's lasted for 4 months and still going *touch wood*.

There was a webpage with a massive list of earphones, ranked in terms of quality but I can't seem to find it anymore :(.

I'm using a pair of Klipsch S4i with my iPhone. I couldn't get on with the silicone tips so replaced them with some Comply foam tips, which work like earplugs (roll them between fingers, stick in ear and let the foam expand). Provides a good seal and are comfortable.
Only downside is the first pair broke after 8 months or so, but I got them replaced under warranty and the new set are going fine a year later.

I hate this recent obsession with mega bass. A studio engineer spent hours getting the balance of the recording just right and now you want to mess with it? I'd rather my 'phones were neutral and let the listerner fiddle with with an equaliser rather than assume we all want to listen to a bass player drowning everything else out. /endrant

Sennheiser IE6 or IE7 with comply tips would be my suggestion. Hard to beat complys for discreet isolation and you can get them for loads of different IEMs..

If you want something reasonably priced then the soundmagic E10's are very good. Again I have mine with the comply tips (notice a theme here???)

I've had mine a while now (9 months) cycle with them under a beanie in all weathers and they are lasting really well. Missus takes them running etc. For cheap but good sound they're hard to beat.
