My 7850 recently failed on me causing a huge amount of garbled screen pixels. Thankfully the card was replaced however since putting the new card in windows is complaining that my PC no longer supports AERO desktop..

And 3D windows based applications like 3D studio max, no longer work (they crash on first launch).

I tested it with games like Dishonoured and HL2 and both worked a treat as expected, but somehow Windows is confused about what the card is capable of, it says my card dosn't support AERO mode. (Also related when i move a window around the desktop it laggs a bit leaving a ghosted image..) but this is less important right now.

I have tried removing all the AMD drivers and reinstalling with no joy.

Any ideas?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

run windows experience index

if that doesnt do it, you can turn aero back on yourself..somehow

It runs fine.. gives me 7.9 but when you enable AERO (or at least try it says not supported device)

I am currently formatting windows as i'm concerned its got messed up when i switched the card over (plus it needed doing anyway)

I had a problem just like this once. When you un-installed the drivers did you just use the AMD Catalyst Install Manager or did you also use some additional program to remove all the registry entries and such.

If you try removing AMD drivers again so device manager shows 'Standard VGA Adapter' reset your PC, then try something like 'Driver Fusion' to remove all registry entries before you install drivers again this might help.

You can find a link for Driver Fusion on this thread... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18431335
