Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter

I'd have probably done the $35 pledge if it wasn't for this line

- Kickstarter campaign and rewards fulfillment limited to U.S.

Seems to be doing well enough anyway, already at $900,000

Aye just saw that he tweeted he's trying to change it to rewards outside the US too.

$1.5mil raised in around 7 hours

Wow, I had no idea the show had this much support!

(clearly because Joss Whedon was in it and said it was the best show he wish he'd made!)

Good amount of VM fans on here it seems, sure I've recommended it before over the years and very few people have seen it. Great cast, great writing and great arcs. Bit disappointed as it sounds like it will be a reunion storyline with Veronica not having been an investigator inbetween(which sounds unlikely and stupid tbh). The next series was supposed to the FBI internship IIRC< and Veronica moving into an FBI based show would be awesome and a film about her on a career case with the FBI would probably be good, they could make that about a case taking her to Neptune when the reunion was on.... though that sounds very close to Grosse Point Blank(kinda).

Would really love to see it made, though tbh I'd prefer a new series with her in the FBI. Firefly, awesome series, okay film. Films aren't long enough to do enough as they always end up trying to make it simplified and re-explain stuff so a casual film goer can get it without having seen the series. Few if any series tuen into great films purely because they make them for wide appeal so don't rely much if at all everything we'd know from watching previously.

A film that kicked off the start of a new series would be great if it generated interest and got someone to push for a series afterwards.

Bloody hell they should have asked for double the money!

It still goes for the 30 days even though it's now reached the 2mil target, anything now just pads the movie budget even more. Apparently it's breaking all the kickstarter records with how fast the funding is coming in. $2mil in under 10 hours and still going strong.

yeah, it slowed down there massively for a bit... must have been some good show on in america for an hour :p

My brother e-mailed me about it while it was at 0.5mil, by the time I replied and he sent an e-mail it had hit 1.7mil. Reading the blurb they had a solid 3mil viewers, though I forget the network, I really think it could turn a tidy profit as a full on series on a cable network rather than trying to get 10mil + viewers on NBC or whatever.

Not sure what everyone else is up to these days, Bell is absolutely wasted in House of Lies, its pretentious BS, not even slightly as witty as it thinks it is, with shallow characters. I've seen a few of the main guys in various fairly crap shows, and guest starring in a few other things. Seriously a series with some of them in it, based around her at the FBI would pawn a kinda cheap movie.

Will be interesting to see how much more it brings in donation wise, if you donate $35 will people outside of the UK get a digital copy of the film, or is everything as yet, for US residents only. okay shipping t-shirts and blurays, I get, but a digital copy they can't do worldwide... booooo.

No, it was a...drama I guess. Based around a high school girl who helps out her detective dad on the side.

It's hard to describe really but in my opinion it's one of the best examples of interlinked plot arcs on a show, all three seasons have story lines that interweave with others over the seasons. The acting is top notch (Kristen is brilliant and Jason Dohring is excellent in particular) and the writing is sharp.

It really does remind me of a Joss Whedon show, it has it's humour and dark moments mixed in with a heavy dose of character and situation driven drama.

I've been meaning to watch Veronica Mars for a couple of years but never got round to it. Anyone know if it's on Netflix UK/US?

This show had one of the best intro theme tunes as well.

Have any other films been made off the back of kickstarters? I mean I would have thought films these days have 10's of millions of dollars as a budget at the very least. So how do they get the rest of the money, or will it be straight to dvd type effort?

A 40 minute short film which was funded through kickstarter won an oscar this year so there is hope for something good :)

To be fair though they could take a photo of Kristen Bell in a bikini and loop it for 90 minutes and i'd be happy.
