Do you respect people less if you find out they smoke?

I wouldn't say I "respect them less", but I do quietly judge them more aggressively on the inside. People have the choice to smoke or not, I respect that, but I will always argue there is a wrong choice.

Nope, However I do lose all respect for someone tho if I see them smoking in close proximity to their children (or smoking when pregnant).

No because I am not a judgemental ass because even though I am a judgemental ass, they are responsible for their own decisions. I would have less respect if they were to pretend that they did not believe that smoking was bad for them.

No I do not.

The only situation in which I would think otherwise is when people smoke in the proximity of children, as Rroff stated.

There is plenty more to say but I fear I would be drawn and quartered.

Non-smokers and their superiority complex make me laugh nearly as much as the pampered gym goers who swagger around town.

No..although I find it ironic that a doctor is smoking and I would be rather put out if a doctor was advising me to quit when they were a smoker themselves, much like I found it a bit rich when one of my former dieticians was overweight herself, yet advising me on diet.

That's what confuses me the most, you see no end of Dr's and Nurses outside hospitals smoking, they see first hand on a daily basis the danger of smoking yet they still do it :/

Do you have less respect for people who consume alcohol? That's still socially acceptable, and can cause no end of problems.

Generally speaking, No.. I have no issue with smokers. That's there issue not mine. I think it's a daft habit though, that affects many aspects of a persons life, and that of others.

To be fair, I don't actually give a hoot if people smoke - if they ask me about it I'll advise them to quit on medical/financial grounds - but as long as they are not blowing it directly into my eyeball it doesn't bother me if people smoke near me.

So from this we can assume that a] you're a smoker and b] you don't go to the gym. I sense envy.

Seen this too. The girl who takes the "Healthy Weight" at work class can't have a BMI under 25. But that's OK because they're "all in it together". Personally I'd feel more at ease if my gym instructor was ripped rather than had a stomach overhang that required a chalk bag to scale.

Regardless of personal habit, those people did a degree and are still 100% qualified to give you advice.

Depends if their levels of consumption are reasonable. Same way as I won't lose much respect for someone who may smoke the occasional cigar.

Gotta be a pretty stressful job though.

My Mrs smokes, I don't mind it, I'd prefer it if she didn't but it's her option. Doesn't change my opinion on people.

The giving of specific medical advice in this context requires more than simply holding a degree, it requires understanding of both the academic and the practice...as far as a dietician is concerned, if they can not follow their own advice and be an example to those they are trying to teach then their advice is undermined by their own actions. So they might be qualified, but I would disagree that it is 100%. I would say that their ability to advise people effectively is undermined by their inability to demonstrate that advice.

Since my dad quit when i was 7 i've hated the smell of smoke and it drives me nuts. So if someone i know smokes then yes i do think less of them, it's stopped me from dating some hot women in the past as well.

OH my were do I start!

With a gang of pretentious, self righteous know it all's?

Smoking is something we do, like Homosexuals perform gay sex, like Muslims practice Ramadan or Christians goto church on a sunday!!! You can get HIV from gay sex you know? Would that be frowned upon?

Smoking is an addiction but also an enjoyment! Like alcohol, and yes if we are sober we frown upon a drunk! Is this right?

But smoking kills X amount of people?

So does alcohol, religion and sexual preference!!!

Do you frown upon all those things?

Do not judge other people by thier habits, race, religion or sexuality, make an informal choice without prejudice on who the people you meet!!!

Reminds me of Invasion of the body Snatchers, (Thanks Castiel for correction!!!)

SMOKER! point finger and SCREEEMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
