after my previous posts i have drawn nearer to which monitor i want to get (well nearly) its between 3. I currently have a 24" Ultrasharp 2407 and would like a second screen.

Option One
Dell UltraSharp 27" Ultrasharp U2713HM

Option Two
Dell UltraSharp 29" Ultrasharp U2913WM

Option Three
LG 29" S-IPS 29EA93P

Reasons for Buying a new Monitor

1) I want more workspace for my job as a graphic designer
2) i want a seconds screen again (living with one screen is hard)
3) I need to buy a nice new big shiny screen to go in my new office
4) I want to play games (the ultra wide worries me on this a little)

Would be good to get feedback from people who own any of these 3 monitors, pros and cons, any problems each one has (if any) please help me i need to get this thing ordered before moving into my new office.

has to be the 27inch dell then. i see the ultra wide is bit of a gimmick really. afterall, it's not offering any more pixels. it's just giving you less vertical so the aspect is suddenly "ultra".

the one downside is that it is more pixels to push when gaming and that will require more grunt.

Yes the extra grunt did worry me a little, the thing that appealed to me about the 29" was on the dell and lg the abilitiy to be able to use as 2 widescreen monitors, but im guessing the size of 2x15 inch ones. And the LG allows to split into 4 screens.

I'll be honest i am leaning more towards the 27 dell it does seem like the safe option, do you have one yourself ?

nope. do you think i'd have a celeron in my sig if i did? :D

i know you wanted the thoughts of owners but i chipped in with my 2p anyway. :p

the screen split is just software. windows 7/8 can already do 2 automatically. it's called snap and you drag an app to the left or right of the screen and it "snaps" to take half the screen. repeat for the other side. you also have "show windows stacked" and "side by side" available by right clicking on the taskbar.

this software probably makes it easier to deal with more than 2 but it's nothing that can't be done yourself. also, 1080p is considerably less space if you want 4 apps taking an equal share each. stacked 2 high that's just 520px before you even consider what you lose from the taskbar and title bars of the apps.

i don't have one. but i have used a 29 ultra wide.

they are very nice for both gaming and working.

the games scale well so you get more of a view to the side of the character/gun (think more peripheral vision) its kind of like a smaller version of having 3 screens.

also on the software front. a free program such as winsplit can do the screen thing. plus its way more customize-able than the lg software. you can set up custom grids and/or hotkeys.

I have the Dell UltraSharp U2713HM, its a great monitor, I use it mainly for games and its spot on, no issues at all, I would recommend this screen to anyone wanting to spend a little more on a high res screen.

thanks for the feedback guys exactly what i needed, i think im going to go for the 27 dell ultrasharp, it seems like the best option for me i reckon, thanks again :)
