Replacement Mech Keyboard Help

Hello

I bought a QPAD MK-50 with Reds about 6 months back primarily for gaming. As it was my first mechanical I was shocked at how much I liked it over my old razer lycosa with rubber domes. Now though I am looking for a replacement. These days I spend a lot more time typing and I just cant get used to the reds. I am a sloppy typist anyway and the lightness and the lack of feedback, noise or tactile, makes it a real pain to type (I have probably typed this paragraph twice now after correcting the mistakes). I have been looking at a brown switch keyboard as I think it is probably a good balance. I like the lightness of the reds but blues are too noisy. After looking at guides and reading many, many reviews I still cant decide that to get and would like some assistance / thoughts on that would be a good replacement. The boards I have shortlisted are:

Logitech G710+
QPAD MK-xx (browns this time, on sale ATM as well)
Filco Majestouch 2
Zowie Celeritas

I couldn't care either way about backlighting, macros, bells, fluffy dice etc however as someone that often uses it for many hours a day comfort is my main concern. I get fatigued easily using the current keyboard (unsure if because of switches or ergonomics) so I am looking for the most comfortable one I can get. I understand that ergonomics are often down to preference but I am guessing some are known to be better than others. Price range wise I really dont have one. Again this is something I use every day so I am not going to skimp on it. You get what you pay for after all.

Sorry for the wall of text but I like to be clear as possible. I hope you can lend some assistance.

Regards,
Andy

P.S. Has anyone tried the G600 mouse from Logitech? My naga is on its way out and has been for a while, was thinking of partaking :)

I've had a Majestouch 2 now for about a year or so, an frankly I couldn't think of a better keyboard! The only thing I wish I did was get the tenkeyless but hey that's not big deal!

I was reading reviews on that, seems bomb proof and really good. Why would you have gotten the tenkeyless one? Space? Can I ask how are the ergonomics, does it hold up on long typing sessions.

for key types, best have personal experience.

Favourite is the brown. They don't feel too alienating from standard keyboards, and will probably be the closest to a regular typing experience.

I like the blacks too, stiffer than the reds.

I found the blues a bit too much for gaming, but very nice for typing.

So yeah, browns are best of both worlds, but better try it for yourself. I've seen some retailers showing off some Steelseries 6G (MX Black) or Razer BlackWidow (MX Blue). Browns are a little trickier to find, which is odd considering how versatile they are.

Indeed, im not sure why browns are so thin on the ground. I have tried reds and blues in the past and think both are two extreme. Hopefully browns will be a good balance. Just finding the right keyboard with them is the hard part :)

Well I don't really have use for the numpad but it does come into use for doing accounts. Over a long session I have absolutely no issues with fatigue or otherwise, mine has MX browns and I find them perfect for gaming sessions as well. I do have an inkling that if an intruder were to break into my house my keyboard would be weapon of choice then back to gaming afterward, they are literally built like tanks!

I have seen videos of people dropping them from quite a substantial height and receiving no damage :) I am defiantly going for the browns but its the chases than converns me. The 710+ is a contender but i hear reports of it being a bit flimsy in places.

I would also recommend a filco. Having had one over a year, its built like a tank, has fantastic typing action for both gaming and proper typing. It feels like it will outlast the rest of my computer components by some time. It also doesn't look like a prop from a cheap sci-fi movie which is also a bonus!

That's also my view Appleby, yeah the filco looks plain and has no features apart from being a weapon. But that's what I like about them, they look basic and simple and do the job perfectly well and don't have any of that silly back lighting or stupid features we don't need.

Couldn't agree more. Over the last 10 or so years I have had numerous keyboard with backlighting, macros and general "gamer" features... all of which I almost never used! Hence why I am simply looking for a well built, fictional and well designed keyboard, hold the bells and whistles.

I'm in a similar boat, it's difficult to get a sense without trying it first hand and that usually means you have to buy it, however they aren't necessarily the cheapest of things!

Haven't heard much about the 710+ but on the face of it, it does look like a nice setup with the browns and the o-rings to soften the keynoise.

Whatever you get would be interesting to hear your perspectives.

Will do. I intend to keep looking and asking over the weekend and then will make a decision next week. I hope to get to a place to demo a few of them but them places are few and far between around where I live.

Get the ninja version of the Filco! Just the right balance of interesting but subtle.

A very bad dusty picture of mine

can't say I've ever had any issues but then I don't suppose you really look at your keyboard when you type. If you want a real challenge DasKeyboard make one with completely blank keys.

I think I will pass on the DasKeyboard one... I like the ninja look and I guess you are correct, how often do you look at the keyboard. At least they have them there just in case :)
