Lost My Passport, when would you use yours other than at the airport?

Need to find my passport over the weekend (not to go on holiday so not that bad) but I've looked in the obvious places in my room and no luck yet.

Was thinking where I had it last but not been away for a couple of years but I've seen it since then. Think I may have used it when staying at a hotel somewhere or possibly as ID for some reason.

To help me along could people tell me what else you'd use a passport for and who would ask for it other than those at an airport.

So far have

Hotel.
ID for tenancy agreements (I used my provisional drivers license).
Opening a bank account.

I don't remember doing any of these things recently and I can't think of any reason for it to leave the usual place I'd put it.

Any ideas? :(

Last bank account was opened 3 years ago and I've been with the same employer 5 1/2 years now. Did change location last year and needed it then but had it since then.

I once left my keys in freezer, I didn't find them for about two months. I still don't know how they got there.

It's the only valid form of identification one has a British citizen when abroad.
So when travelling to countries where carrying ID is compulsory, then you are expected to have it on you at all times.

IRL, it stays at home or in the hotel safe unless I'm in the process of travelling.

Mine expires at the end of October.. will I be OK to travel next month? I think some places are funny about passports reaching expiry?

Nothing, I use my driving licence for ID as it's always in my wallet :)

I don't think you understand/read the question :p

Hiring a car
Opening a bank account
There are sometimes reasons to post a passport somewhere and for them to post it back again, perhaps it is out in the post and you forgot about it because it has been a while, or maybe it got lost in the post?
