Hey Guys and Girls,

My birthday is coming up soon (woop :D) and therefore I can start the upgrade of my current, but only adequate rig. Because of this I've drawn up a list of components I would like to upgrade to (over time), and I ask that it be checked over by you lot to see if it is okay, if any alternative components may be more suitable and so on...

I haven't really set myself a budget for these components, although I don't plan on getting anything ridiculously expensive, as I feel I can save towards them. At this time I use my rig mainly for gaming and programming, as well as all the other general stuff of course.

The list of components I wish to upgrade to are as follows:

Intel Core i5 3570K
Intel DZ77GA-70K Mobo
Corsair Vengeance Blue 16GB (2x8)
MSI GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition 2GB
Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD
WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD
Corsair TX850 PSU
Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 Sound Card
XSPC Raystorm 750 RS240 W'cooling Kit v4

I plan to upgrade in several phases, the most recent being the Motherboard, SSD and the GPU, next being the CPU and PSU - and so on.

When I do acquire the first phase, I will most likely start a new project log, as I do plan to experiment with w'cooling radiator positioning etc.

Thank you for your time :)

I would, except 7970 pricing is a bit steep, especially for the MSI one.
I have heard most 670's overclock well and even up to some 680 speeds, and I think the Twin Frozr 4 cooler is more than capable of cooling it.
Nonetheless I will consider it :)

You might as well get a 7950 to be honest. Same performance if not better than a 670 when both are overclocked and you save -£80.

You do have a very good point however (not wishing to sound like a fanboy) I would prefer Nvidia being completely honest, also most of the games I play are Nvidia-optimised :/

pick a better ssd and motherboard imo

to be fair I find them both reasonable for what I'm looking for, the Force 3 does have decent read/write speeds, and if I can buy another I will plan on striping them together in order to improve performance. I also find the motherboard to be well suited to my needs, I very much like the look of it and it does appear to have a nice variety of features, all of which I believe I'll require :)

Yea I would have to agree with what's been said, go for the 7950 and save some money and change the board to a gigabyte. The SSD is the same one I got and so far I have no complaints about it.
