Buying oil off e-bay?

No different to buying new, branded and sealed oil from any other online distributor IMO. Other than the added eBay hassle factor of course.

I've bought oil and filter bundles for my bike from eBay many time. I just stick to known reputable shops and get cheaper prices. I also keep an eye on Halfords to see when they have deals as I bought some fully synthetic oil from them a couple of oil changes ago.

I buy many a time from ebay. Bought a genuine Nissan service kit off ebay for £38 delivered. Genuine 10-40 oil, Genuine Nissan NGK plugs, air filter, oil filter and sump nut washer.

Hastle? Paypal saves time fumbling around for your card and you get a lot of protection from ebay?

Yes, it's a massive hassle having to type your password into eBay while lounging on the sofa, and even more hassle to answer the door to the courier.

Bought a Focus service kit off eBay before. Oil filter, air filter, plugs and 5 litres of sealed Comma 5W-30. ALl came the next day in a well packaged box. Not a problem at all.

More chance of ending up with some Chinese knockoff with eBay IMHO, you are mostly dealing with people who have no real business presence and no reputation to uphold.

Bought a litre of Castrol Edge 0W30 from the 'bay last week, arrived and used, engine hasn't blown up yet and is behaving as I would expect it to after a top up. :)

Less than £10 all in, but not a suspiciously low price. Makes sense to get it at the price the garage does rather than the price the garage wants to charge you.

Just had an oil service done on my car.
Price of oil from BMW - £130
Price of oil from eBay - £60

No brainer!

Not sure if I would risk it. If it seems too good to be true then it probably is. They could be sticking any grade of oil in there. No way would it go anywhere near my car.

which isn't how it works anyhow :p

I do laugh at all the people who stick some oil in and proclaim its great, my engine hasn't blown up, or it's no different from the expensive stuff.

Accelerated wear of bearings and other components takes a while to manifest itself into anything detectable by the owner, in which time the cheap oil he's being using isn't though if as the culprit.

If the likes of halfords or Ecp got caught selling knockoff oil they would be hauled over the coals. Most eBay sellers would simply fold up their tents and sell as someone else, that's not to say some ebay sellers can't be trusted, you just need to watch out!

Nothing wrong with buying from eBay as long as it's a reputable seller (i.e. they're known and others have bought from them). However recently when looking I found elsewhere online to be cheaper.
