Guys, how do I measure the correct length for a 9sp Chain?

People always say compare to the previous one but I built my bike myself and my previous one always seemed a little short.

I use the following - put chain round Big ring at the front and the big ring at the back and add two links.

Mates just got the Trek, seems like a nice bike to be honest.

I'd go 2nd hand at that price range though.

I have no idea what to look for to be honest, had friends buy second hand also, they said it's not worth the hastle of finding things don't work. All I know is I need Hydraulic bakes.

it really is a minefield, as with anything. it's hard to find reviews as well.

I could very well wait a month and spend around £550. I do have a friend who works and owns a bike shop not far from here, I may have to go down and see him as he's deleted his facebook account (for reasons unknown), not seen him since highschool though.

Well, my budget has gone up to around £650-700 with Birthday money, though I'd like to stay the lower end of that budget :D.

Looking at the Rockrider 8.1 or GT Avalanche 2.0, as people mainly keep telling me it's the one to get around that price.

Are there better for the money? or is the rockrider a better bike, as it seems, Suntour on the rockrider where as the GT has Rockshox.

I like that one, looks good and decent spec for the money. I personally would look at 2nd hand though. You'll get a lot of bike for your money.

Went to Whinlatter for the first time today, was quite good, north loop was really snowy and icey and the south loop was incredibly muddy in places making it great fun. Struggled on the climbs (i walked most of them) but the flats and downhill were great fun! Just got the hang of hitting jumps right which is great fun, did skip one of the jumps though as i wasnt sure on the landing.

Any tips on jumps ? no idea how to add any sort of style to the jumps, my landing is pretty much perfect (can barely feel the landing so guessing it's perfect haha)

Decided to start slapping more videos together, in stead of just taking footage and sticking it on a drive somewhere, never to be seen again.

Downhill Haribo from 2012:

that does look good, but it's an extra £50 for shipping :O!

I really can't go over £700 as i'm overspending anyway, What should I look for? Because I've had a look on Pinkbike and it's like a minefield, sifting through pages of components.

edit - just signed up to bikeradar and opened up a post.

I hate that video.

It shows to me in no uncertain terms how extremely terrible I am on a bike, and makes me think I should give up and start competitive tiddly winks.

If you do want to buy new you could try places like wheelbase where they have a lot of stock, might have last years models going cheap. Last time i went there they had a few.

As Canyon's German the price varies on exchange rate so keep checking, go's up and down. get it on a good day and it'll possibly be within budget
