Mineral water , who drinks it?

My tap water comes straight from Loch Lomond. It tastes lurvely!

Very unlikely in West Lothian...

Your supply will come from Pateshill or Marchbank Water Treatment Works most likely, fed from the reservoirs in the Pentland Hills. Still not a bad source and Scottish Water have spent a lot upgrading those works :)

As someone who works in the water industry, it makes me laugh when people harp on about spring water. The amount of effort that goes into delivering a safe, high quality supply of fresh tap water to the public is phenomenal across the country. A lot of the supplies are better than spring water, in some places in Scotland the only thing done to the supply is a simple filter to filter out micro-organisms and particles then it's straight into the pipe with no chemical treatment.

Obviously in some areas, more treatment is required but the standards required for drinking water in this country are some of the most demanding in the world.

Since ive started drinking mineral water i feel more relaxed than drinking anything else such as normal water, tea, coffee, pop, i wish i had started drinking it a lot earlier , i have always looked at it and just thought it was normal water , its not and its making a huge diference to my daily life.

Placebo. You are probably drinking more water as a whole combined with cutting out soft drinks etc. the fact the water is mineral water has nothing to do with it.

Tap water is disgusting, coke or mineral water for me.
Also local water board dont maintain pipes etc who knows whats in it, I see water leaks every day around town makes you wonder how much that contaminates it ?

Get mine ice cold out the fridge, filter hasn't been changed in a while so doesn't taste as nice.

Can buy a crate of 24 500ml bottles for £2 from local cash and carry, sell them at a music festival for £2 each, LOADSAMONEY.

lol but tap water is treated to a higher standard and is regulated a lot more thoroughly.

I love tap water.

This is one of those things that when people started spouting about it I switch off & make a note to myself that this person is not worth listening to. Bit like fake moon landings & Lizard overlords.

^^^^

'Gullible' is the word I like to use, generally followed by 'idiots'.

We drink a lot of bottled sparkling water as an alternative for the kids to Coke. It's cheaper and better for them. But I can't see the point of normal mineral water instead of tap water.

Why drink mineral water? drink Sapphire water because it makes you more resistant to scratches.

;)

Tap water for me, its as good or better than the overpriced stuff in bottles. Comes from the lake district as well, and looking at a mineral breakdown has more or as much as the stuff in bottles.

Thanks for the info.

My source was rather old. It was an old book a bit like a council survey of West Lothian detailing water supplies, forestation, geography, leccy supply, education and loads of other info. It had a map of the complete water supply system for West Lothian and I noted at the time that the whole lot was fed from Loch Lomond.

It was dated sometime in the 60s so probably way out of date.

If I lived elsewhere I would drink it all the time, would certainly beat reprocessed sewage tap water.

Mineral water isn't as perfect as you may think.

"Plastic packaging is not without its downsides, and if you thought mineral water was ‘clean’, it may be time to think again. According to Martin Wagner and Jörg Oehlmann from the Department of Aquatic Ecotoxicology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, plastic mineral water bottles contaminate drinking water with estrogenic chemicals."

The mains water network is under pressure so it may leak but nothing will enter back into the pipes. One concern would be if you have old lead pipes in your property.
