I think it £33 for a year from my local blockbuster...What's the cheapest you can get PSN+ for? I'm tempted to upgrade for the PS4.

All the features that come with being online, netflix, party chat, iplayer etc etc. You can get it for less than £40 though online, but it still should be free.
I hate to have to point this out, but if you are PAYING for playstation plus, then the games are not FREE as you put it.
what else are you actually getting with PS+? you pay for it to get the games. Now im not saying its a bad deal, looks to me like there are some ok titles.
Microsoft will need to update the service next time around if they want to be competitive.
Do you get free games with xbox live gold ??
the PS3 relies on the person hosting the game to have a good net connection
Call of Duty doesn't have dedicated servers
You get an on-line services that doesn't go offline for a month...
But yes, XBL is not a choice, people pay it because they have too.
No free games, but we get plenty of adverts.
Why do people moan about adverts on XBL gold?! You get like one advert per blade/tab really if that and the ad's aren't invasive at all. Only the LoveFilm makes any noise and that is only if you move over it. It's not like they are splashed all over the page and like YouTube now where you have to sit through one before you get to the next section for example.
Gold also gives you early access to certain demo's etc doesn't it?

I see where you are coming from and it's not like they can use the argument that they need to generate income as thats where the sub comes in to it. In regards to the ad's, do Microsoft use any kind of tech to look at what you play/watch to decide what you get ads for? As I can honestly can't recall ever seeing stuff to do with last year. Most of what I see on the Movie/TV blade for instance is always current sports events and recent film releases. :/
I'd hardly say I was a mug too, I just don't get annoyed by the small little square ads that you can ignore.
Sony is the most evil in this respect, they are the only one to have patched additional advertising into a game after its released as they did with wipeout, they not only put adverts around the track in game they also put video ads into the loading screens that you couldn't skip even if the loading was done while the advert was only half way through. They backed down on this approach but only after huge backlash not out of consideration for their customers
Or how about the way they just straight nickel and dime you right from the off... they sell you HD gaming console and blu-ray player and ship it with analog video leads only, no HDMI cable, no network lead to get online, no headset for online play. Right from the off they were the most expensive console but you get the bare minimum for your money and they deliberately leave out things you need to charge you more for them, and then there's removing features... just wtf
